Happy Mother's Day! There are some great Mother's Day events going on this weekend as well as concerts, movies and festivals.

If you are looking for a great day trip, you can head on out to the NC Zoo for Mother's Day. Print a coupon off their website and you can get your Mom a Discount Admission. Click through for the details.
Honor your Mother and Mother Nature by taking a walk together around the mill pond at Historic Yates Mill County Park Sunday afternoon.
Mayday! Mayday! It's Almost Mother's Day. Dads, grab your little ones and head over to JC Raulston Arboretum on Saturday to dance around their May Pole and make a gift for Mom.

First Friday Happenings
 
First Friday this month offers many fun cultural opportunities. Come March Around the World with the Cary Town Band as they march around Europe and America to sample a wide variety of musical delights from a smorgasbord filled with "marches" at the Sertoma Amphitheatre.
The A/V Geeks at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences present "Retro Astro," a unique collection of favorite clips from the NASA Images project along with live blues music by Steve Harvell during First Friday Movie Night.
Celebrate First Friday with the Raleigh City Museum.
East in the Evening returns this Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Art with an Auction Preview, live music and special themed plates. Art in the Evening continues also with the 2008 film Summer Hours.
Are you a polka fan? You will want to head over to the Page-Walker Arts & History Center for Yankovic Day. The free concert is designed to bring polka fans together to hear the music of the late Frankie Yankovic.

Festivals & Special Events at Triangle Parks
 
If you missed Spring Daze in Cary last weekend, you have a chance this weekend to enjoy Apex Peakfest. A wonderful variety of crafters and artisans will be on hand displaying their creations while the stages will boast live family entertainment all day. Not only will there be an assortment of yummy festival food, but also a tempting collection of international fare. There will even be a Kids Zone area with rides and games for the younger population.
Meet in the Street is expecting a crowd of more than 10,000 to descend upon Wake Forest this Saturday. Like Peakfest, the event will feature a wide variety of handmade arts and crafts, fabulous festival fare, international foods, a Children's Village and a day full of wonderful live entertainment.
Saturday at Nash Square there will be a parade and Memorial Service to honor Fallen Firefighters.
When was the last time you saw a Cord, Franklin, McLaughlin, Packard or Studebaker? Come see antique cars displayed on the grounds at Oak View at their annual Antique Automobile Show. Strawberries are the theme of a fun family event in Durham. The Strawberry Festival in Durham will be a day long celebration with Music, Dance, Food and Games!
Celebrate Persian culture and cusine at the NC Persian Festival. The event, being held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds will feature Persian dances, music, art, crafts and food.
The Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel will host their annual Herbfest. In addition to vendors selling a wide variety of herbal crafts, garden products, foods and plants, there will be tours of the Page Educational Garden, entertainment. and hands-on activities for the kids.

Join the Lake Crabtree County Park bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for our feathered friends. Discover different types of birds and their habitats.
Its Member MAYhem @ Sk8-Cary this weekend. Challenges and events for Skateboard and In-Line will be held all weekend instead of the normal sessions.
 
Fun at the Fairgrounds & Farmer's Markets
 
The Carolina Mane Event Horse Show will feature open competitions, dressage and HunterJumper events at the Hunt Horse Complex.
If you are near Downtown Raleigh at lunchtime Thursday, you will want to stop by the State Farmer's Market for Strawberry Day. Along with an abundance of fresh, local strawberries, there will be a dessert contest, samples, free recipes and a guest appearance by Suzy the Strawberry.
All the municipal farmer's markets are now open throughout the Triangle. To find one in your area, go to the ParkGeek.com Event Search and type in Farmer's Market. The Holly Springs Farmer's Market opens this weekend with live music by Route 55 Jazz, a drawing for great prizes for everyone making a purchase opening day and a new Little Sprouts Activity Center.
