Park Description
Located in southeastern Cary at 9725 Penny Road, the Jack Smith Park - a 50-acre tract that was formerly the Bartley family farm - is on the south side of Penny Road near Holly Springs Road. There are dog park fees and shelter rental fees Playground Unique play structure designed for children 2-12 Sprayground The Town"s first splash pad has seven water features and is recommended for ages 12 and younger. No pets or food will be permitted in this area. Sprayground will be operational from mid-May through mid-September. Dog Park Dog Park passes can be purchased for the Town"s second off-leash dog park at one of the Town"s three community centers. The passes are valid for both the Jack Smith Park and Godbold Park dog parks. More information can be found here. Climbing Rock This 10 foot tall climbing rock for beginner to experienced climbers is inspired by nature. Public Art The Town commissioned Artists Vollis Simpson from Lucama, NC and William Moore from Pittsboro, NC to create unique features for the Park; both drew inspiration from the former farm’s earlier life. Simpson’s three whirligigs will be installed at the Park. His towering sculptures spin in the breeze and are made from cast off machine parts and farm equipment. Moore"s flock of nine Suffolk sheep, a distinctive feature of the original Bartley farm, will graze in the open play field near the playground area. Picnic Shelter The picnic shelter can accommodate 20 people. Reservations can be made starting September 1 for rentals beginning October 1, 2016. The Park plan also includes: - Greenway trails
