End of Apple Chill Festival

Park Description

Located in the heart of Chapel Hill, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center transports visitors to distant galaxies and takes them deep into the cells of every living organism. The Star Theater, with its Zeiss Model VI Star Projector, is the focal point for programming. Each year more than 100,000 visitors stream through the Star Theater doors for a schedule of shows designed for all ages. The Morehead Center"s most recent addition is a new digital video theater that features original science programming produced by world-class film studios. The NASA Digital Theater is adjacent to the beautiful Morehead rotunda, which features a statue of James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States and a UNC alumnus, as well as an art collection. Visitors to the Morehead Center will also want to explore the exhibit area where they will find explanations of astronomical phenomena and a tribute to astronauts who trained at the Planetarium until 1975. Before leaving, visitors can purchase a memento of their experience during a trip to the The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center Gift Shop.
