Black History Symposium

City of Raleigh Museum (COR)

The City of Raleigh Museum will feature a celebration of African American history in Raleigh. This free event features speakers, exhibits, and demonstrations that reveal Raleigh’s deep African American history.

Angela Hatton, president of Raleigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., will talk about the organization’s role in shaping Raleigh’s past. Father Jemonde Taylor, pastor at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, will discuss the church’s 150-year history and its plans for the future. Both organizations have upcoming exhibits at the City of Raleigh Museum in 2018.

The final session with Mike Cuales, Creative Director at North Carolina State University"s Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications Department, will demonstrate the use of virtual and mixed reality at the Pope House Museum for historic preservation and storytelling.

The event will also feature rare historic photos of African American life in Raleigh from the museum’s collection.
