WWI Public Centennial Commemoration

North Carolina State Capitol Grounds
North Carolina State Capitol Saturday, April 8th 10:00am Wreath Laying, 11:00am Family events at the NC Museum of History.

On Saturday, April 8, the day will begin with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the World War I section of the North Carolina Veterans Memorial on the State Capitol grounds with the NC National Guard, World War I reenactors and attending dignitaries.

Afterward, a ribbon-cutting will officially open North Carolina and World War I to the pubic. The day will feature a range of free family-oriented activities including:
Performance by a WWI regalia-dressed bagpiper
NC National Guard vehicles
The 82nd Airborne’s mobile museum
Screening of Valor about the life of North Carolinian Kiffin Rockwell
Costumed reenactors
Screening of 585 Days, if You’re Lucky, which share firsthand stories from the trenches, hospitals, and homes of those troubled times
Book-signing of North Carolina and the Great War: 1914-1918 by Jessica Bandel
Knitting demonstrations of “Knit for Sammie!”, items that were promoted by the American Red Cross during WWI
Local organization tables including the Red Cross, NCDCR, and more
Kid"s craft tables
and half-price memberships and raffle drawings at the Associates" table!
