The Northeast Community Coalition is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. The occasion celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. The June 17 event will begin at 10 a.m. at Taylor Street Park, 416 N. Taylor St., with a "Meet & Greet," followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Freedom Parade that will begin at Olive Branch Baptist Church and end at Taylor Street Park. The day-long event will also include a Job Fair at the Alston-Massenburg Center from 10 am-1 pm and a short program from 11:45 am-12:30 pm featuring remarks by Mayor Vivian Jones, Rev. Enoch Holloway, Eugene Adams, and long-time resident Evelyn Jones. The celebration will also include a variety of food and entertainment.
