Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the holiday buzz is in the air! This weekend officially kicks off the holiday season in the Triangle with parades and seasonal events.

The Raleigh Christmas Parade Marches into Downtown!


Bundle up and head downtown early to get a great spot to watch the Annual
Christmas Parade in downtown Raleigh. The event is expected to draw more that 60,000 spectators to see the the largest parade between Atlanta and Washington, D.C. The parade is also broadcast live on WRAL starting at 10:00am.

Once you are downtown, you can head over to The North Carolina Museum of History for the Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration. Come celebrate North Carolina's American Indian heritage at this exciting festival featuring music, dancing, storytelling, hands-on activities and food. There will be members of the state's eight recognized tribes sharing their heritage and demonstrating their skills at pottery, basketry, beadwork and stone carving. Its a great event to learn about the history of the American Indian that took place right here in North Carolina.
After the parade, walk over to City Market on Moore Square for a City Market Christmas. Stroll the streets in a horse drawn wagon, enjoy cookies and apple cider, sing along with local music groups, and kids can make their own ornament at the crafts station.
The date we have been waiting for is finally here! The Grand Reopening of Pullen Park will include a dedication ceremony, music and entertainment on Saturday afternoon.
Find creative, locally handmade gifts of art for everyone on your holiday list at the Durham Art Walk Holiday Market both Saturday & Sunday.
The Wonderland Express a 2,200-square-foot, indoor holiday exhibition is sure to delight all ages at the Museum of Life and Science. The handcrafted exhibition made of natural materials and designed by the award-winning artisans of Applied Imagination, is sure to immerse you in a magical world.
Antique dealers from Maine to Florida will be showcasing period furniture, fine & estate jewelry, silver, crystal, glass, fine botanical prints, majolica, English porcelain and American folk art at the Woman's Club of Raleigh Antiques Show and Sale.


Great Fall Fun for the Whole Family


Bring the whole family out to Blue Jay Point County Park after dark Saturday for The Sky's the Limit Astronomy Event. The Raleigh Astronomy Club will be guiding you to view Jupiter and its bands and moons and deep sky objects like Pleiades, Andromeda Galaxy, and Double Cluster.

Come on out to Historic Yates Mill County Park Saturday morning to Paddle the Pond and then take a Corn Grinding Tour of the restored Historic Mill.
Join the staff of West Point on the Eno for a Tracks and Scat. From footprints to burrows to scat you will search for signs of animal life in the forest. The Discovery Club at Little River Regional Park will also be talking about Tracks & Scat Saturday afternoon.
kick off your weekend with a Moonlight Paddle of Lake Michie Friday night.
Raleigh's new park, Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve invites you to bring your little ones to Our Tree Friends. Listen to a story about a very special tree and then go on a hike to meet your own tree friend and make a bark rubbing.
Take a trip over to the Raleigh Farmers Market on Friday and not only can you pick up a few sweet potatoes or some fresh green collards for your Thanksgiving feast, but you can also enjoy Pecan Day . There will be plenty of local pecans for sale as well as free samples, recipes and educational information about the south's favorite tree nut.
Lake Crabtree County Park will be talking about Wacky Woodpeckers. Come find out how they drill into trees without getting a headache, what distinguishes them from other birds and how many species of woodpeckers call Lake Crabtree home.
Wake County Big Sweep brings a volunteer opportunity to Walnut Creek Wetland Center this Saturday for a Wetland Clean Up.
Come explore the world of the turkey and make a terrific turkey craft on the American Tobacco Trail Saturday morning for Gobble Gobble.
Eno River Sate Park invites you to join them for some early morning Birdwatching Saturday morning, or take a hike of the Cabelands Home and Mill Site on Sunday afternoon.

Art and Culture


The Carrboro Film Festival is a celebration of the film and video creativity we have in Orange County. All filmmakers-from beginner to well-established professionals will be featured Sunday afternoon.

Marbles Kids Museum invites you and to Sing! Dance! Play! on Saturday, Bungee Barbie on Sunday, Target $2 Tuesday Night on Tuesday night and to Help Stuff Their Turkey on Wednesday with a free museum guest pass for every four cans of food donated.
The North Carolina Museum of Art kicks off the weekend Friday night with Art in the Evening featuring tunes by Kevin Van Sant, an in-depth exploration of Renaissance Interior With Banqueters and the 1945 film Spellbound. Bring the kids Saturday for A Cornucopia of Delights and join Sean Scully for a lecture about his personal journey as a leading abstractionists on Sunday afternoon.
Meg Kassabaum will be leading this Friday's archaeology tour at the University of North Carolina for this week's Priceless Gem Tours.
Calling all teens. Betwixt, Graffiti Monkeys, Ohm and The Program will be heating things up Friday night at the Holly Springs Cultural Center for another rockin Teen Band Night. Cars will be the featured flick at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday morning.
 

A Fun Day Trip


If you are looking for a fun day trip outside the Triangle, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro is a great destination. This weekend they will be celebrating the 11th birthday of one of their gibbons and your invited to Dempsey's Birthday Party.

The Natural Science Center of Greensboro is an awesome blend of children's museum, science center and outdoor zoo. With lots of hands on exploratory opportunities for little ones, science shows and displays for older kids, and a beautiful outdoor area with a wide variety of animals in natural habitats, the center can keep the whole family engaged. The museum also sits adjacent to a large park and lake which make for a great picnic opportunity.
