It looks like the fall temperatures will be moving in this weekend. It is a great weekend to take in a Fall Festival!
ParkGeek will be out at the Heritage Festival at Historic Oak View Park. Make sure to stop by our tent and put your name in a drawing for tickets to the Rembrant exhibit coming to the North Carolina Museum of Art and Marbles Kids Museum.

Fall Festivals Around the Triangle
 

Heritage Day at Oak View County Park is everything an old time fair should be. Live entertainment, heritage crafts, re-enactors, hay rides, historic farm equipment, cane pole fishing, festival foods and lots of live animals! Come on out and cheer on the 4-H kids as they compete for ribbons. ParkGeek will be there, too!

Bass Lake Day celebrates environmental education with interactive displays and exhibits about North Carolina's environment. Learn about soil types and water quality, touch pelts from a variety of our native critters and explore the wide diversity of aquatic life we enjoy. The evening will end with a bluegrass concert.
Family Fest at the American Tobacco Campus promises to be an exciting family-friendly day featuring activities focusing on family, health, safety, nutrition, education, community awareness, and most importantly family fun!
Phoenix Fest in downtown Durham will feature some of the best musical talent from North Carolina and the southeast, with over 20 performers entertaining festival goers with non-stop reggae, gospel, R&B, blues, jazz and hip-hop. Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas and stay the whole day.
In celebration of WakeMed's 50 years of service to the community, the hospital system is hosting a Scrub Run and Fun Fest. The WakeMed Scrub Run will feature a 5K, 10K and 100 Yard Kids Dash, culminating in a Fun Fest in downtown Raleigh's Moore Square.
Help Marbles Kids Museum celebrate their 4th Birthday with special activities all week long!
The fun continues Sunday with Woofstock, the annual canine festival at Durham Central Park. The event will feature canine demonstrations including agility, flyball, frisbee and K9 units, competitions and games, adoption/foster groups, pet-related vendors, music and food.
The Town of Chapel Hill hosts the Annual Festifall Street Fair on Sunday. The festival boasts a plentiful mix of artisans showing pottery, paintings, photography, jewelry, candles, toys, woodworks, fabrics & clothing on one side of the street with downtown merchant displays on the other side. A large food court pavilion and a variety of entertainers performing on stages located throughout the festival round out the festival atmosphere.

More Fun
 

The Friday night movie, L'age d'or (The Golden Age) at the North Carolina Museum of Art will be joined by Art in the Evening and the opportunity to stroll through the galleries which are open late.

Sit back and enjoy a wide variety of musical styles including pops, classical, movie theme songs, patriotic tunes at a concert by the Holly Springs Community Band. The concert is free, but the Band is asking everyone to bring donations for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard.
Chatham County Line will be kicking off the weekend with a free concert Friday night at the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheatre.
Have you ever wondered if you own a Treasure? The North Carolina Museum of History invites you to make an appointment Friday to have their conservators assess and offer advice on care on your family heirlooms.
Tour Wake Forest artists' studios, visit with the artists and see how they create their art during the annual Wake Forest Area Artists' Studio Tour both Saturday and Sunday.
Rusted Root will be the featured band at this Saturday's Bud Light CityFest at the Raleigh Amphitheater. All tickets are $5.
Disney's Spooky Buddies will be the Family Movie playing Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
Join the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Monday evening for a visual tour of the places in the world most affected by climate change, from the poles to mountains and our cities, when explorer and photojournalist Gary Braasch presents "Climate Change Now: A Photographer Explores the World of Global Warming".


 Fun at the Parks
 

Join a park ranger at Umstead State Park for a peaceful hour of  Fishing Fun or a guided Canoe Trip on Big Lake Friday morning.

Finish out Take a Child Outside Week with a Night Hike at Lake Crabtree County Park or some Evening Splendor on the American Tobacco Trail.
Take a Child Outside at Prairie Ridge Friday afternoon with guided walks to explore their variety of habitats.
Come back to Lake Crabtree County Park Saturday morning for their Fall Big Sweep or join their bird enthusiast, for Birding with Vernon for an easy walk while looking for and listening to the areas birds. Saturday afternoon, discover the amazing world of mushrooms in a Mysterious Mushrooms program.
Both Historic Yates Mill County Park and Blue Jay Point County Park are also hosting Big Sweep events Saturday morning.
The Falls Community on the banks of the Neuse River was the earliest settlement in northern Wake County. Historian Barbara Barham and her some of her friends will share some of the Falls story, its past, present and what they call its ideal future on Sunday afternoon.
Next Tuesday, you are invited to take a morning Walk Through the Seasons at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning and an evening Family Walk in the Park at Durant Nature Park.
 
 
 Daytrips Outside the Triangle
 

Staycations were all the rage this summer, but another way to feel like you are taking a vacation is to enjoy a daytrip outside your normal routine.

Enjoy a fun day of learning about the vast and beautiful universe we live in during  Astronomy Day at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro. The museum is a wonderful combination of science center, childrens' museum and zoo.

 

Are you looking for a beautiful drive to a great destination? Take a country drive out to the NC Zoo this weekend and you be treated to Zoo Fest in addition to all the incredible animals. Zoo Fest will celebrate Native Americans through art work, dance, music and mystery.

The Battleship North Carolina invites you to celebrate 50 years of being open to the public in Wilmington with reduced admission prices. Going back to 1961 prices, adults will be 50 cents and kids will be 25 cents on Sunday.
