Welcome back to the heat of the summer. There are lots of great summer events this weekend.

 

To Celebrate the 11th season of the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Cary will be holding its 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt. The Cary Scavenger Hunt will include both Family Teams and all Adult Teams of 4 and will test the participants' knowledge of Cary. Teams will be required to visit locations around town. There are some great prizes so click through for more information.
 
Celebrate Summer at Our Parks
 

Staycations are all the rage with the current economy. Even if you are already back in school, a trip to a local park can be an awesome way to unwind and rejuvenate yourself. Eno River State Park invites you to join them for an informative program on the amazing Monarch Butterfly Saturday or take a Turtle Trek on Sunday.

Also themed on turtles, Falls Lake State Recreation Area offers their monthly Box Turtle Trek.
Learn the basics on paddling at William B. Umstead State Park on Thursday morning during Canoeing Skills I and then head on over to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area on Friday or Sunday for a Canoe Paddle around Weaver Creek.
Come, learn about Occoneechee Mountain's Geologic Wonders and explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist or discover what kinds of Dragonflies can be found flying around.
If you want to enjoy the cooler temperatures once the sun sets, you can Get Batty over on the American Tobacco Trail on Friday night.
Wake County Parks invite you to spend your Saturday with them learning about Dragonflies at Harris Lake County Park or how to keep a Nature Journal at Blue Jay Point County Park.
Historic Yates Mill County Park gives you the opportunity to view the mill wheel from the water while you Paddle the Pond or from inside the fully restored mill on a Heritage Tour.
The Triangle Model Yacht Club will be back this Saturday morning sailing their model ships around the lake. You can also kick off your weekend with a hike around the park with park staff to look at Summer Wildflowers.

Pack a picnic and unwind Friday night at Durham Central Park with the sounds of John Dee Holeman and Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen for a Warehouse Blues Concert.

The lawn at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be hopping to the R & B and Funk sounds of the Mistique Band.

The Sunday in the Park Concert Series continues this weekend at Fred Fletcher Park with the Raleigh Concert Band.

Music will be provided by DJ Pittipat Friday night at the W.D. Hill Recreation Center while you enjoy some Family Roller Skating.
DJ Piddipat will spin music from her prodigious music collection at the Durham Central Park for another evening of Music in the Park

Movies at the Parks & Museums
 

Come on out to the North Carolina Museum of Art to be inspired and entertained. This Friday's Movie on the lawn is the 2010 film The Ghost Writer starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan and Olivia Williams. Go early and enjoy Art in the Evening. Saturday night, bring the kids for Movies on the Lawn. The entertainment starts early with Family Fun in the Setting Sun, which features crafts and activities including and an opportunity to make your own pet dragon. Stay till the sun sets and enjoy the 2010 favorite, How to Train Your Dragon.

Booth Amphitheater at Regency Park will be screening The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Thursday night for this week's Movies By Moonlight.

Friday night's Movies in the Park at Falcon Park will feature Horton Hears a Who. Come enjoy free popcorn and a movie on the hillside.

The Family Movie Festival continues this weekend at the Holly Springs Cultural Center with the Disney film The Jungle Book.

 

Fun at the Museums and the Fairgrounds

Family Fun Night Thursday night at Marbles Kids Museum is an after-hours event for kids with special needs to experience Marbles in a calmer, quieter environment.

The Super Cool Liquid Nitrogen Show is back next week at the Museum of Life and Science.

There will be a huge selection of beads along with workshops and demonstrations at the Bead Mercantile Show.
The Summer Dance Series on the City Block at the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature two performances on Saturday by the newly formed contemporary dance group, Kristin Taylor and Company.
Make it a Wonderful Wednesday at the North Carolina Museum of Art with a children's performance by Captain Rainbow Imagination Show with Hardin Minor. Before or after the performance, you are welcome to try your hand at the Drop in Crafts.
