by Pam & Michael Davison

Wonderful Summer weather leads itself to having fun with friends and family. With such an amazing variety of events going on this weekend, from movies and concerts to hikes and history programs, I hope you can find something to do to make this weekend part of your summer to remember.

The Farmers Markets are in full swing now. Just about every town in the Triangle has its own Farmer's Market Saturday morning and several have weekday times, too. Go to the event search at Parkgeek.com and plug in Farmer's Market and we will give you all the details so you can bring home some local honey or some just picked tomatoes. Head on over to the State Farmers Market in Raleigh on Thursday at lunchtime for Peach Day.

The State Fair is still several months away, but there will be some great deals to be found at the State Fairgrounds. Check out the Kids Exchange Consignment Sale for all you baby and kids supplies.

History Gets Unearthed

Celebrate the Museum of Life and Science Dinosaur Trail's second anniversary with a weekend full of fossils and fun. Meet local collectors from the North Carolina Fossil Club, talk with paleontology experts, find your own fossils or make fossil casts at their annual Dino Days. Click through for the schedule for both days.

Saturday is Archaeology Day at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park. Delve into Yates Mill's history by participating in a mock archaeological dig and find out how professional archaeologists go about learning about the ancient past and about the people and places of more recent times. Also at the Mill this weekend, Corn Grinding Tours take you back in time with a tour of the corn grinding equipment in operation, with costumed interpreters and background of how the whole intricate system works. If you are interested in volunteering at Yates Mill County Park, their Volunteer-In-Parks Interest Session will go over all the volunteer opportunities open to you,

Visit the Raleigh City Museum to learn more about the budding days of Raleigh! Fires, Fads and Fun: Raleigh During the early 19th Century will include costumed living historians ready to teach Regency dance, social etiquette, and life in the early 19th century.
Face off with the Carolina Hurricanes staff as you take Center Ice to improve your hockey skills for some Hockey Fun at Marbles Kids Museum Thursday afternoon. Friday morning, the Garden Gourmet will teach kids how to make a delicious treat using peas from local farms. Stay late next Tuesday night for Target $2 Tuesday Night and enjoy an evening of exploration for the whole family.
