Halloween is just around the corner! It looks like the weather is going to be awesome so whether you are looking for spooks and screams or science and music, have a great weekend! Feel free to go to the ParkGeek.com Events Search if you want to get the whole listing of holiday events.

The State Fair runs through Sunday! Head on over to the fairgrounds for your annual fix of fair foods, rides, shows, animals, 4H and everything NC!

Mordecai Historic Park will host this week's Pop up Dog Park Friday through Monday.

Pizza and a Movie Night returns to the Halle Cultural Arts Center this Thursday with the flick Aladdin. Come back Friday night for a Family Dance with a traditional dance caller and old-time string band.

This week's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will be all about Vultures.

Wake Forest's Halloween Spooktacular moves to Joyner Park Thursday evening with a free, family-oriented festival.

Leading up to Halloween

There are so many fun options for you and your little gouls and gobblins. Some of these events do have admission fees and many require pre-registration (and some sell out fast) so make sure you click through for all the information.

Friday night, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro presents a Fright Light Laser Show on their 40 foot dome theater featuring a star studded soundtrack including the songs Thriller, Dead Man's Party and a Monster Mash.

The Witches on Salem Street will be out in Apex for a Ladies Night of shopping, dining and fun Friday! On Saturday, mosey on over to the Halle Cultural Arts Center for the Goblins Grove, a family dance featuring music from the 80's & 90's as well as spooky favorites.Come back with the kids Sunday to Trick or Treat on Salem Street.

Mordecai Historic Park goes all out on Saturday with the Haunted Mordecai Free Festival. On both Friday and Saturday, they invite you to take a Haunted Mordecai Lantern Tour or a Haunted Trolley Tour.

Zombies will prevail this weekend. Zombiepalooza will premiere Friday night at the Cary Theater featuring local filmmakers' own zombie films; cosplay zombies, and classic films to scare the pants right off of you!

Trick or Treat in Downtown Fuquay-Varina Friday afternoon.

As a special treat Friday, join them for a Pumpkin Flotilla at Bond Park to watch the pumpkins set sail across Bond Lake at twilight. There will also be food trucks, live music, and face painting!.

Come to Hillsborough's Spooktacular Weekend! They will offer Spirits of Hillsborough Haunted Tours both Friday and Saturday. Their annual Halloween Spooktacular party will be Saturday evening at the Central Recreation Center.

Friday, the Carrboro Halloween Carnival will bring great carnival games and wickedly good prizes to Downtown Carrboro.

Cary's Great Pumpkin Carve includes a family pumpkin carve, family friendly Halloween movies and more kids activities. Also in Cary on both Friday and Saturday, check out Herbert's Haunted House.

Chapel Hill hosts the famous Homegrown Halloween Thursday with a festive downtown and large crowds of costumed revelers.

Fun Fall Festivals!

The Town of Holly Springs presents HollyFest Saturday at Sugg Farm with a variety of events including kids zone, cornhole cup, food trucks, business expo, live entertainment, kids activities, and arts & crafts expo.

Moore Square invites you to a Roaring Raleigh Lawn Party Saturday with a 1920's inspired event that will feature dance performances and lessons, roving entertainers, model T cars, and vintage clothing vendors.

The Durham Bulls Fall Festi-BULL on Saturday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park features a fan-choice movie, costume contests, food trucks and hayrides highlight the event, which is free to attend.

Durant Nature Preserve invites families to a Campfire & Marshmallow Roast Friday after the sun goes down.

Durham Central Park will also go to the dogs Saturday during Barktoberfest.

Campfire stories & songs, hayrides, treats, crafts, games, and face painting are all part of the Hallow-Eno Festival Thursday night at West Point on the Eno.

This is the last weekend for the Pumpkin Patch Express at the Museum of Life and Science. Climb aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway for a journey to the Museum"s pumpkin patch. Pick the perfect pumpkin to decorate and take home, then enjoy crafts and a variety of carnival games before returning to the station.

Museums, Movies and More Fun

Explore the inner workings of Historic Yates Mill and witness the power of water as it turns the milling machinery during a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour and on Sunday, a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour.

Yates Mill will get into the spirit of the season with a Discovery Table exploring the Natural Colors of Fall Friday through Sunday, a chance to Paddle the Pond Saturday and a Fantastic Halloween, an opportunity to make your own trick-or-treat bags, paper plate jack-o-lanterns, and paper bag monster puppets Wednesday through Friday,

Scare-o-lina Skies returns to Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. Explore the dark legends behind the constellations in their Family Version with two showings Sunday.

Dorothea Dix Park will host a Halloween Double Feature for their Movies by Moonlight after dark Saturday along with some area food trucks.

Shoaldiggers will be the featured band at this weekend's Sundays in Hillsborough Concert.

The movie Paranorman will be shown Monday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

On Halloween night, search out candies and treats at the N.C. Museum of History as you walk along the Trick-or-Treat Trail and through The Story of North Carolina chronological history exhibit.

Also on Halloween, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science's Science Cafe will be all about the Science of Monsters. Join them to trace the sinister history of three modern Halloween monsters with a modern scientific eye to discover the origins of witches, vampires and zombies.

Halloween Fun at the Parks

Raleigh Parks are hosting several Halloween Celebrations throughout the city parks. On Thursday, Laurel Hills will host a Twick or Tweat; on Friday, there will be a Pumpkin Bash at Roberts Park, Haunted Halloween at Peach Road, and a Boo Bash at Abbotts Creek. On Halloween, Sanderford Road invites kids to a Trunk or Treat, Ralph Campbell Community Center hosts ApolloWeen and Powell Drive Park is having a FANG-tastic Halloween Drop-In.

Blue Jay Point County Park invites you to Howl-O-Ween Saturday afternoon to learn all about the reintroduction of Red Wolves into the NC wilds and about the expansion of coyotes into NC. territory.

Celebrate the magic of the season with a weekend of safe daytime Halloween fun at the NC Zoo. Enjoy trick or treat games, storytelling, live entertainment and a children"s costume contest both Saturday and Sunday.

Morrisville invites you to Trick-or-Treat the Trail on Saturday at Morrisville Community Park. They will start with a Family-Friendly Trail and end the evening with a Guided Haunted Trail.

Join a Jordan Lake Park Ranger Monday night to learn about the Creatures of the Night that roam Jordan Lake. They will even have a small campfire going near the end of the program if you want to bring supplies for s'mores.

Join Harris Lake for a special Halloween themed Geocaching Adventure Sunday! Learn what geocaching is and how to use a GPS unit then go find the special creepy caches hidden in the park and get a surprise to take home!

Spend the Wednesday evening with a Jordan Lake Park Ranger and learn about Jordan Lake's Haunted Ghost Stories. After a short hike, you will enjoy a campfire with s'mores and more local and state park ghost stories.

Celebrate the Halloween with a Family Wagon Ride along the back roads of Harris Lake Park on the 31st. Be on the lookout for all things fall and spooky as you and your family play a fun bingo game. Wear your favorite trick or treat costume!
