It looks like another fabulous weekend! With close to 70 events listed on ParkGeek.com this week, we are going to hit the highlights in this week's newsletter. Please go to the ParkGeek.com Event Search for the complete listing.

Start the Weekend Early with Thursday Fun

Every Thursday and First Fridays, Marbles Kids Museum is open until 7pm with $3 admission after 3pm.

Spend an Evening with Rufus Edmisten, Former North Carolina attorney general from 1976-1984, Former Secretary of State and Author Thursday evening at the North Carolina Museum of History. Possibly the most colorful politician in North Carolina's last 50 years, Rufus Edmisten will share some of his story in his words from his memoir.

Join an Umstead Park Park Ranger Thrusday evening to enjoy S'mores roasted over a campfire and a kid themed story.

Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will be explore Changing the Conversation about Concussions.

Join them at Worthdale Community Center Thursday evening to Welcome Summer with lots of fun kid-friendly activities including roll up gaming, carnival games, food, giveaways and a summer safety presentation by the Raleigh Police Department.

Join them in Downtown Garner after dusk Thursday for an Outdoor Movie on the Lawn featuring the movie First Man, the food truck Route Bistro and the craft beer truck Brüeprint Brewing Company.

Festivals, Fairs & Special Events

The Wake County Libraries kick off their Summer Reading Celebration Saturday and Sunday at many of their branches. Along with picking up their Summer Reading logs, kids enjoy some fun activities.

Saturday is the Annual Beaver Queen Pageant at Duke Park. Come enjoy the annual neighborhood "pageant" featuring live music and fun. WUNC"s Frank Stasio will emcee this years pageant.

Durham Central Park will host the 2019 Durham Christian Music Festival. Besides great music, there will also be food and games and plenty of fun and fellowship.

Downtown Apex will come alive with the Latino Arts Festival Saturday. There will be crafts, art workshops, piñatas, jewelry making, woodworking, a Latino Culinary Fest & Bazaar, dance performances and live music.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host the North Carolina Junior Beef Roundup, the Capital Dressage Classic and Repticon Reptile & Exotic Animal Show.

Come run for the animals at the NC Zoo. Saturday will be their AAZK Run Wild with the American Association of Zookeepers.

Saturday is Crawfish Day at the State Farmers Market. Get there early because they will sell out!

Kids Together Park invites you to their Birthday Party Sunday. Craft noisemakers, join the parade, hear the story of the park and help make Roly Poly fruit slushies.

Join them in Downtown Wake Forest Monday for the 33rd Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremony to Honor Father and Son. The service will honor Wallace Denton and Everette Reid Denton. Members of the Denton family will participate in the ceremony, which will include patriotic songs, special remarks, a memorial wreath laying and the ceremonial flag-raising.

Music, Movies & History

Enjoy music, small plates and special drinks during Iris after Dark Friday evening at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Come back Saturday after the sun goes down for a Sit, Stay, NCMA Movie Party with Isle of Dogs.

Celebrate Last Fridays with downtown Festivities in Cary, Apex and Chapel Hill.

Chatham Rabbits and Alexa Rose will be the featured performers for Friday night's Freight Train Blues Music Concert in Carrborro.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will feature the live music by Lee Gildersleeve and the local food trucks 454 Grill Truck and Napoli.

Its Final Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Join them early for food, live music and science stations and then stay for the movie The Little Mermaid.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will be the featured flick Saturday after dark in Downtown Chapel Hill.

The Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series at Carroll Joyner Park closes this weekend with a concert by Marcus Anderson Band.

The will explore A Short History of the Cuisine of the South Monday evening at the North Carolina Museum of History with John Beck, Historian and Author of the book Southern Culture

The Holly Springs Cultural Center kicks off their Summer Cinema Series with the movie How to Train Your Dragon Monday morning.

The First Wednesday Movie at the Halle Cultural Center will be The Favourite.

National Trails Day and Park Adventures

They are throwing a Statewide Star Party at Prairie Ridge Ecostation Friday night. See the stars and planets through telescopes compliments of the Raleigh Astronomy Club and learn about the constellations.

Crowder By Night will be exploring the Amazing Amphibians that call the park home after dark Friday night.

Tours are back at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park! Join them Saturday for a Half Hour Tour of the main power drive and milling machinery of the fully restored mill. Sunday brings Mill Heritage & Local History Tours.

They will be looking for those Remarkable Reptiles Saturday along the American Tobacco Trail.

Lake Crabtree invites you to go Birding with Vernon early Saturday

Celebrate National Trails Work Day Saturday at Jordan Lake for a morning of trail work and Invasive Species removal of "Bamboo". All tools and bug spray will be provided, just bring work gloves, wear long pants and sturdy shoes.

Become a Plant Detective at Lake Crabtree Sunday afternoon. Did you know there are over 4,000 species of native plants in North Carolina? This program will give you tools you can use to help distinguish one plant from another and help you learn why knowing which plant is which is important.

2019 is the Year of the Snakes in North Carolina's state parks. Come to Jordan Lake Sunday to learn more about our slithery neighbors.
