Whether you are into the crisp cold air of winter or are waiting for the warm winds of spring to come, there is something for everyone this weekend.

Start the Weekend Early

The Halle Cultural Arts Center invites you to an Art Exhibit Opening for Nancy Kempf, Sid Thakur, Anna Pollard, & Trudy Thomson Friday evening.

Iris after Dark returns this Friday night with live music, special drinks and small plates.

This is the final weekend to enjoy the NC Chinese Lantern Festival at Regency Park which will come to a close January 13th.

Back to Nature

Sisters Trek Friday morning at Eno River State Park is aimed at introducing women to the fun and benefits of hiking. Join Ranger Kim Radewicz on the Bobbitt Hole Trail to experience the winter beauty of the Eno. Come back Saturday to explore the 4 - 5 mile trek around the Cox Mountain Loop or take a Kangaroo Hike for parents carrying infants and toddlers.

The adventures continue at Eno River Park with a Sunday Saunter aimed at active adults.

Join Birder extraordinaire Larry Zoller Saturday morning at Harris Lake Park for a Winter Bird Hike to observe their seasonal visitors such as the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Common Loon. Bring the kids back Monday so they can build a Snowman for the wildlife this winter.

Historic Yates Mill County Park is also calling for entries to the 13th Annual Mill as Muse Community Art and Photography Contest. Entries will be taken until February 1st and there are both youth and adult categories.

This Sunday's Winter Hike at West Point on the Eno Park will be from Cabe Lands to Sparger Lodge. Join them to explore history left behind by early residents of the Eno as you hike to the ruins of the old Cabe Mill and Sparger hunting lodge, along with a visit to the Cabe/Shields cemetery.

More Fun!

Grab your family for a friendly competition in the Sport of Science Saturday at Marbles Kids Museum's Family Science Olympiad. They will have events including Codebusters, Fingerprints, Forensic Entomology, Duct Tape Crafts, Ping Pong Parachute, Potions & Poisons: Exploring pH, Potions & Poisons: Venomous Snakes, Reptiles & Amphibians and Say It, Do It.

Durham will kick off the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr by Celebrating the Legacy through the Arts Saturday at the W. D. Hill Recreation Center. Join them for visual art displays. poetry, open mic, community discussions, live performances and arts and crafts projects.

The Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Beauty and the Beast.
