Spring is now in full swing! This weekend is full of festivals and fun for the whole family.

Please note the 19th Annual Frog Fest is Saturday the 7th.

The Weekend Fun Starts Early

Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will feature Science Trivia. Come back Friday for a Teen Science Cafe about Why Does the Mind Matter?

Friday is Tartan Day at the North Carolina Museum of History. Join them for a daylong celebration of bagpipes, Highland dancing, genealogy discussions, demonstrations, Scottish food, and a few surprises.

First Friday in Raleigh features extended hours and special programing at the City of Raleigh Museum (COR) and Marbles Kids Museum. Many of the local restaurants and galleries host specials as well. Look for the First Friday Gallery Walk flags throughout Downtown.

The North Carolina Museum of Art invites you to enjoy music, small plates and special drinks at Iris after Dark.

Friday is the 2nd Annual Arts Everywhere Day throughout the UNC campus. There will be hands-on art making activities, pop-up performances, colorful installations, and more campus-wide.

Friday evening at Bass Lake Park will feature Family Fun Night. Join them for some arts & crafts and to meet a live animal and then enjoy singer and storyteller Trish Miller or magician Dan the Magic Man.

Festivals & Fun

Celebrate Frogs and Clean Water with games, crafts, educational activities and food at Crowder Park's annual Frog Fest.

The JC Raulston Arboretum hosts their Annual Birdhouse Competition and Raulston Blooms Festival this weekend.

Come on out to enjoy the 2018 Apex PEAK-TIQUE Antiques and Collectibles Festival both Friday and Saturday.

The Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival comes to the Page-Walker Arts & History Center this weekend with a variety of events Friday through Sunday.

Falls Lake State Recreation Area invites you to the BW Wells Heritage Day Saturday to showcase 19th century farming techniques, a hog farming tour and nature hikes for all ages. There will also be arts and crafts for the whole family to enjoy, such as painting with pine needles, build-a-baseball and kite making activities.

Saturday is Dirt Day in Downtown Wake Forest. Kids will have a blast playing in the sand, planting herbs for home windowsills, and exploring trucks from S.T. Wooten Corporation. Adults will have the chance to learn about the newest techniques in gardening and composting, check out the newest in outdoor activity gear, and visit with a variety of vendors offering an array of products and insight

Experts from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, RTI International and the Smithsonian Institution have teamed up to develop a day-long event, Going Viral, designed to help the public understand the risks, newest science, and best ways to predict, prevent, prepare for and respond to an infectious disease pandemic called .

See what happens Sunday when Carrboro closes a street to cars and reclaims the space with all sorts of other car-free activities like biking, climbing, and dancing during the Open Street Festival.

The Near & Far Festival Sunday will celebrate global culture within Chapel Hill at this fun and funky street party!

More fun at the Parks

Sign up for one of the Angling Times at Harris Lake Park Friday evening and park staff will provide instruction, fishing poles and bait.

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for Birds Saturday morning.

Historic Yates Mill County Park features Saturdays at the Old Mill Tour. Sunday, they will be offering Mill Heritage & Local History Tours. Monday they will be telling Mill Stories in Motion.

You are invited to go Geocaching 101 on the American Tobacco Trail Saturday. Learn what geocaching is all about and take off to find a geocache in the park!

Help clean up Lake Crabtree's shoreline and other areas around the park during Saturday's Big Sweep. Come back Sunday to go Hunting for Herps.

Who's Swimming in the Eno? What special features allow them to thrive there? Come and spend an hour looking at adaptations of fish in the Eno River Saturday morning.

Its Opening Weekend at West Point on the Eno. Join the folks at West Point on the Eno Park as they open their historic buildings, including the West Point Mill, for the 2018 Season. They will be grinding in the Mill, leading behind the scenes tours, and have hands-on activities for all ages. They will also have music and historic trades, colonial cooking, fishing demonstrations

Join the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center, Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society (CHAOS) and Raleigh Astronomy Club (RAC) for a free Skywatching program at Dorothea Dix Park Saturday after dark.

Sunday's Spring Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Dunnagan Trails passing Buzzard Rock, crossing the Pea Creek Bridge, Catherine Dunnagan's grave, and the remains of the Pump Station Dam.

The State Fairgrounds

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds hosts the spring edition of the Southern Ideal Home Show, a Precious Gem & Mineral Show and an All-Arabian Horse Show.

Also at the Fairgrounds Sunday, the Unleashed Mutt Spring Fling is focused on helping local area animal rescue groups. Many rescues will be there along with local vendors and games. The most popular event is the largest Doggie Easter Egg Hunt around with thousands of eggs filled with special prizes!

The NC Science Festival continues this week with the Technology of Trash. Learn how the City of Raleigh uses technology to collect waste safely and efficiently.
