It looks like there may be a little rain Friday and Saturday but the sun will shine Sunday and Monday so enjoy the long weekend. This weekend also officially kicks off our fantastic festival season here in the Triangle!

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will shake things up this Thursday night with a Town Hall: Rap on Race moderated by Greg Fishel.

Seldom Scene with Cicada Rythm will present a Back Porch Music on the Lawn concert Thursday evening at the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheatre.

First Friday Kicks Off the Weekend

First Friday means Family Fun Night at Bass Lake Park. Start the evening with arts & crafts, live animals and some fishing. Then join kid favorite Trish Miller for a childrens' concert.

Raleigh also boasts the First Friday Gallery Walk, as well as extended hours at Marbles Kids Museum and the Raleigh City Museum.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences kicks off fall first Fridays with a Teen Science Cafe. This month will bring a night of Science Trivia.

The North Carolina Museum of History celebrates First Friday with beer samples from Mystery Brewing, the food truck So Good Pupusas parked just outside on Edenton Street and the movie Paths of Glory. In addition to the exhibit North Carolina and World War I, two exhibits will be coming to a close on Monday. Make sure to check out Miss North Carolina and Photographs by Hugh Morton: An Uncommon Retrospective.

The Carolina Inn in Downtown Chapel Hill will present the sounds of local bands along with Triangle food trucks Friday evening.

Downtown Chapel Hill will be buzzing with activity with a pep-rally atmosphere at Tar Heel Downtown Friday night. Join them for live music by Kasey Tyndall, the Tar Heel Cheerleaders, kids games & activities, concessions, Marching Tar Heels perform on Franklin Street, Face painting and a chance to meet Rameses!

Festivals and Fun

This weekend's African American Cultural Festival is a two-day cultural festival, that takes place annually on Labor Day weekend, in the center of Downtown Raleigh. The event offers a family-friendly, outdoor festival that features entertainment, visual artists, cultural displays and food & craft vendors.

Experience the excitement of radio control model flying and drone racing Saturday at Bass Lake Park. Wings Over Springs Model Aviation Day will provide noontime demos of all types of models and fun the whole family!

Its a Super Fun Saturday at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Join them to sample activities for the upcoming art camps, do arts and crafts and play games at the bimonthly event.

The Bull City Rumble comes to Downtown Durham on Friday and Saturday. The world-renowned vintage motorcycle and scooter rally is open to the public for viewing the annual bike show.

Join the City of Raleigh Museum Saturday as they commemorate the medical career of Dr. Manassa T. Pope, the first licensed African-American doctor in Raleigh. All interpreters will be in period dress as you view rare, original instruments and remedies used by Dr. Pope.

You are invited to the Tarheel Labor Day Cluster of Kennel Club Dog Shows. A different Kennel Club hosts competitions each day Friday through Monday and competitions include a Championship all breed dog show, obedience and rally trials.

Running Friday through Monday, the Treasures of the Earth Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show at the State Fairgrounds will offer a vast array of precious and semi-precious gem stones, pearls, beads & findings, minerals, fossils, and finished jewelry in gold and silver.

The State Fairgrounds will also host an Equestrian Exchange Consignment Sale.

Come spend an entire afternoon free from electronic devices Sunday afternoon as Wake Forest goes Unplugged ...and gets Connected. There will be free games and activities including sack and relay races, corn hole, and miniature golf. The evening will culminate in a concert featuring Piney Woods Boys.

Also Sunday, get out of the kitchen and head on over to Durham Central Park for an afternoon Food Truck Rodeo. Along with over 50 Food Trucks on hand, there will be live music by Wood Robinson's New Formal.

Music, Movies & History

Want to get inside Historic Yates Mill? Come on out for a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday and Monday. They will also host a Field School on Animal Tracks and Signs for kids 7-14 on Tuesday.

Summer Films at the North Carolina Museum of Art continues this weekend with Say Anything Friday and An American in Paris Saturday. Bring your kids to the Museum Saturday for a Family Fun Saturday all about Impressionism Reinvented.

Nip & Suck: Biting Bugs and Mystery Bumps will be the theme of this week's Science Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. You are also invited to a Saturday Science Buffet, a lively science presentation featuring a "taste" of everything the Museum has to offer: live animals, weird science facts, dramatic demonstrations, and explosions (small and controlled of course), all seasoned with a touch of humor.

Explore Durham's public art on the Murals by Bike tour Saturday morning.

The Holly Springs Farmers Market is excited to present the SproutFest Kids Appreciation Day along with the weekly market.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will be showing the film Finding Dory Tuesday morning and Meagan Leavey Wednesday night.

Join them Downtown Raleigh every Wednesday evening through October for "Music on Market."

Lots More to do in the Parks

Take a Beginner Birding Class Friday morning or go Birding with Vernon, their bird enthusiast Saturday morning at Lake Crabtree County Park.

Have you ever wanted to introduce your toddler to the woods and not known how to make it fun? Join Ranger Jack for a Tike Hike, a toddler and young kids program Monday morning at Eno River State Park. Also Monday, you are invited to join them for a Labor Day Bird Hike.

Every fall (broad-winged) Hawks begin their incredible journey south to winter grounds in the tropics. Blue Jay County Park will explore raptor adaptations and migration thorough games and activities Monday afternoon.
