I hope you have enjoyed the short respite from the heat this week. There are a wide variety of concerts, movies, park events and historical programs throughout the weekend.

The Durham Public Schools' will sponsor a Countdown to Kindergarten for Durham Public Schools' kindergarten students and their families Thursday evening at the Museum of Life and Science. Join them for this free event featuring Museum fun and school info.

Family Nature Night at Laurel Hills Community Center will be all about Radical Reptiles. See and touch live reptiles including turtles, lizards, and snakes along with a reptile themed bedtime story Thursday.

Thursday's Back Porch Music on the Lawn at the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheatre will feature Headliner Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley with opener Acoustic Manner.

The classic 1965 movie, The Sound of Music will be playing on the outdoor screen Thursday after dark at the Raleigh Little Theater. Come early to join the Lip Sync Battle and enjoy Food Trucks Cousin's Maine Lobster, Fresh Outta Brooklyn and Jay's Italian Ice.

Science Thursday at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences features extended hours and a competitive round of Science Trivia.

From 3pm-7pm every Thursday, Marbles Kids Museum drops their admission price to $2 and stays open late for family fun.

First Friday Fun

First Friday is always a blast in Downtown Raleigh! The North Carolina Museum of History joins the fun with samples of beers from Oak & Dagger Public House in Raleigh, the final weekend to see the exhibit Discover Your Governors and a chance to experience the 6,500 square foot special exhibit, North Carolina and World War I

The City of Raleigh Museum and Marbles Kids Museum feature extended hours and special activities.

Along with the Museums, local Raleigh galleries and restaurants host a Downtown Gallery Walk.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will bring local bands to the stage along with Triangle Food Trucks.

Far from the city lights, Bass Lake invites you to bring the kids to the park for a Family Fun Night. Start off with some arts and crafts, meet a live animal, or borrow a fishing pole and then end the evening with a kid friendly concert with Trish Miller.

Festivals and Fun

Science Saturday returns to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences with a discussion with Biomason about Growing Stone with Bacteria

Join them at the Halle Cultural Arts Center for a Super Fun Saturday with free arts & crafts for children.

Grab on and discover the power behind the chomp in some of the NC Zoo's meat eating residents Saturday for Claws and Jaws.

The 2017 UNC Football Team will host the annual Meet the Heels Day Saturday at the Eddie Smith Field House.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host a Finally Farm Show Series at the Hunt Horse Complex.

Explore Durham's public art on the Murals by Bike Tour Saturday morning.

Bring your family to Marbles Kids Museum Saturday for the Family Science Olympiad! Build rockets and pasta bridges, Investigate the eclipse, explore matter and get curious about earthquakes and volcanoes.

The Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo will bring over 50 food trucks to downtown Sunday afternoon along with tables and chair seating for over 1,000 people.

Monday is Watermelon Day at the Museum of Life and Science. Join them for special watermelon-themed animal programing. Bring a whole watermelon to share with your favorite Museum animals and learn more about the hot weather care of our animals.

Music and Movies

The North Carolina Museum of Art will be showing the award winning film Lion on their big outdoor screen at dusk Friday night. They will show the amazing movie Hidden Figures Saturday evening.

Family Favorite Finding Dory will be hitting the big screen after dark at Regency Park Friday evening.

The Grammy Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band will be playing a concert at Durham Central Park Friday night.

Enjoy the Latin & Jazz sounds of Jazziando at a Rock the Park concert Saturday evening at Southern Boundaries Park.

Jamrock returns to the Page-Walker Arts & History Center Saturday night to fill the air with their authentic reggae rhythms along with Kona Ice.

Apex Movies in the Park Series present X-Men: Apocalypse at Apex Nature Park Amphitheatre after dark Saturday.

Holly Springs Community Band will present an Americana concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday. Come back Monday Morning to the Holly Springs Cultural Center for the movie Flushed Away.

Breathe Deep will offer a Moody Blues Tribute for Sunday's Concert in the Park at Fletcher Park.

Diali Cissokho and Austin McCall will blend the music of Senegal and Saxapahaw Sunday evening for a Concert in the Park at Carroll Joyner Park.

The Cary Arts Center will present the Philharmonic Association's Summer Session Concert Tuesday evening.

Experience Harris Lake County Park overnight by joining their Family Campout. Relax around the fire with s"mores, take a night hike and enjoy other evening activities. The event starts Friday night and goes to Saturday morning.

The will be going on a Family Paddle Friday evening to take a tour of the lower lake at Durant Nature Park.

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for feathered friends Saturday morning.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering Saturday at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. You are also invited to join them for a collaborative community art project celebrating National Friendship Day both Saturday and Sunday.

Unravel the mysteries of metamorphosis Saturday afternoon as they investigate the Blue Jay Park Garden for Butterfly activity.

Join an easy hike to watch the nearly Full Moon Rise over Falls Lake Sunday after sunset.

Kids ages 5+ are welcome to join Rangers at Historic Yates Mill County Park Monday afternoon for a Side of History: Lighting the Way. Join them on National Lighthouse Day to hear the true tales of NC lighthouse keepers, play a lighthouse game and make a model lighthouse to take home.

Tuesday is Nature Play Day at Blue Jay Point Park. This months theme is going to be Sound.

Tuesday will be about Butterflies at Durant Nature Park. Join a nature instructor to read a nature-themed storybook and then head out onto the trail to look for elements of the story within the Preserve.
