The heat is on and it feels like summer! There are a whole bunch of outdoor concerts and movies so you can enjoy your summer evenings after the sun goes down.

Movies at the Parks and Museums

The week of kid's movies continues at the Halle Cultural Arts Center through Friday. Thursday's movie is Pete's Dragon and Friday features Frozen.

Regency Park hosts Movies By Moonlight Thursday showing of La La Land.

Flashback Friday returns to City Plaza Friday night with the classic movie The Mask.

"Pictures & Images" looks back to the analog days with vintage television commercials for Kodak and Polaroid. It's also about the invention of motion pictures, with Marey and Muybridge in the geeky Biography of a Motion Picture Camera from 1948 during Friday's Durham Cinematheque Movies in the Park.

The North Carolina Museum of Art will be showing the 2016 Amy Adams film Arrival Saturday evening under the stars.

Moana will also be the featured flick in the Pit at Parrish Womble Park Friday night. This week's Movies in the Park is hosted by Hope Community Church.

The Holly Springs Cultural Center continues their Summer Cinema Series Monday morning with Horton Hears a Who.

Music for everyone

Concerts throughout the Triangle kick off Thursday and continue through Sunday. Come out for After Hours Early Summer to enjoy free music on Thursday nights on the lawn in Carrboro along with a beer tent selling local beers. This week features Zoltar's Fortune.

Cary invites you to the En Plein Air Paint the Town Gala Friday evening. There will be a Silent Art Auction, Live music with dancing and refreshments and Juried Awards.

2nd Friday ArtWalk takes place in Carrboro & Chapel Hill on the second Friday of every month. Come on out to enjoy live music, food, activities, hands-on art demonstrations, discounts, and more.

Also in Chapel Hill, come enjoy local bands playing the tunes and dinner from area Food Trucks Friday evening on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn.

Art After Hours will liven up Downtown Wake Forest Friday night with food, merchants and music!

The Summer at the Springs Concert Friday night in Holly Springs will feature the Classic Rock, Soul, Funk, and Blues sounds of GB4.

Friday Night on White returns to Downtown Wake Forest along South White Street Friday with music by the Bull City Syndicate.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences celebrates their featured exhibit "RACE: Are We So Different?" with the Rhythm of Race: A Celebration of Music, Dance and Spoken Word all day Saturday.

Saturday's Sertoma Series Concert at Bond Park will feature old time country music and newly written songs from the Appalachian mountains with Sam Gleaves & Tyler Hughes.

Music of the Carolinas on Sunday at the North Carolina Museum of History will bring The Lang Sisters Band to the stage.

Fun, Festivals & History at the Museums and Parks

Come to Thursday's Science Cafe and learn how humans, unlike 97% of all mammals, have Brains in Love.

Bass Lake Park hosts an evening of Family Bingo Friday.

Durham's Tobacco Heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents during a Walking Tour Saturday.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will host both Saturday Tours of the Old Mill and Sunday Mill Heritage Tours.

The NC State Fairgrounds will host the Tarheel Triple Classic Quarter Horse Show and the Gem & Jewelry Show.

Over 50 trucks will be on hand Sunday for the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo along with seating for 1,000 and silent, no fume power to the trucks.

More Fun at the Parks

Paddle Lake Crabtree by moonlight on a Full Moon Paddle Friday evening.

Come check out Durant Nature Preserve's Sensory and Nature Play Garden during a Play Day Friday morning. Come back after dark Friday and join Rangers having Fun with Fireflies. You will get a chance to make your own boat at Durant Sunday and test it in the creek as they send Boats Afloat.

Serious Skills for Adults Saturday at Blue Jay Point County Park will attempt to Demystify Reptiles and their Family Wildlife Series will be all about those Amazing Snakes!

They will be looking for some Morning Birds at Eno River State Park early Saturday.

Bring your kids to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area Sunday so they can learn to bait a hook, the types of fish found in the lake, and if willing, how to unhook a fish during C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!)
