Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the holiday buzz is already in the stores! This weekend is the last weekend before the holiday season officially kicks into gear in the Triangle with parades and seasonal events.

 

The 'Jump for the Children' Horse Show....benefiting Duke Children's Hospital at the State Fairgrounds started Tuesday and runs through Sunday. Spectator Admission is free and the event will even feature an International Hunter Derby Friday night and a Grand Prix on Saturday night.

Food Truck Thursdays continues at Knightdale Station Park with D"Burritos and Captain Cookie at lunch and The Humble Pig and Buoy Bowls for dinner.

Step back in time this month at Historic Oak View County Park and enjoy Pecan Pickin' Month.

They will be celebrating International Science Center & Science Museum Day with plenty of special activities on Thursday at the Museum of Life and Science. It is also a Durham Community Day so Durham residents can visit the Museum for free with proper identification. The next free day is December 1st.

2016 Santa Train Ticket Sales at the Museum of Life and Science went on sale to the General Public November 8th. The event sells out every year so get your tickets early.

Tickets are also on sale now for the Holiday Express Train at Pullen Park. This year's festivities include a visit with Santa, a ride on the holiday train to view the lights, unlimited carousel rides, a real snow covered sledding hill, crafts, and games.

Hill St. Community Center invites kids 5-12 to join them Thursday evening to make a Veteran's Day Craft.

Fairs & Festivities

Thursday through Saturday, you are invited to view the Winners from the Jackson Hole Film Festival at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Click through for the schedule and featured films.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will host Saturday Tours of the renovated mill as well as Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. Join them Friday for a Veterans Day Side of History. Learn about the holiday and make pretty firework cards to send to some of our veterans.

More than 100 Craftsmen Featuring a Large Variety of Handcrafted Items will be at the Raleigh's Farmers Market Friday through Sunday along with all the great local fall produce to help you kick start your holiday shopping for their Fall Craft Fair.

Kids Exchange hosts a Christmas Toy Exchange this weekend at the State Fairgrounds to provide families in the community a place to buy and sell gently used children's items as well as a new home for holiday items.

The Triangle Chili Challenge comes to Downtown Cary Sunday afternoon with a Chili Cookoff, live music and over 60 handmade artists and craft makers.

Great Fall Fun

Adults and teens are invited to take a Walk in the Woods Saturday morning at Crowder Park to help collect data for their Natural Resource Inventory Database and other citizen science projects. Or head over to their Discovery Table Saturday afternoon and learn fun facts about the deer that live in the park. Kids will want to Get Crafty for Turkey Time Saturday. They will learn how to use recycled materials and feathers to make a turkey. On Sunday, the Park's Family Feature will explore Native Americans.

Blue Jay Point County Park is offering another edition of Serious Skills for Adults Saturday morning. Join them for Pokemon 101 and learn how to be a "cool " grown up with your smart phone.

Bring your binoculars to Eno River State Park and join them for a relaxing Saturday Morning of Birdwatching. Saturday afternoon they will be exploring Lichens, Mosses, and Ferns. On Wednesday, you can join a ranger on a Fanny Breeze Homestead History Hike.

Come on out Saturday and Join a Park Ranger at the Bald Eagle Observation Deck. Learn about the Bald Eagles of Jordan Lake and see what other birds you can spot and identify! Also Saturday, you are invited to join a guided hike around the Red Loop Trail to enjoy some amazing views of the lake from the New Hope Overlook.

Falls Lake State Recreation Area will host a Fall Foliage Hike Sunday. Come back to the park Monday night to see the November Supermon with NC State University"s Astrophysics Group. They will have telescopes with lunar filters for you to view the closest full moon in over 68 years!

Harris Lake Park will hold their preschool programs Monday. Click through for this month's themes and the age groups offered.

Wreaths are a traditional way to decorate for the fall and winter seasons. Join them Wednesday morning at Umstead State Park to make your own wreath out of natural objects found outdoors.

Art and Culture!

2nd Friday Art Walk returns to Downtown Carrboro. Many of the galleries will have live music and other art related entertainment.

Second Friday of the month also brings Art After Hours to Downtown Wake Forest as the streets come alive with food, merchants and music!

The North Carolina Museum of Art kicks off the weekend Friday night with Art in the Evening featuring live music by DotCombo and an in-depth exploration of Beyond Funtion Sound Structure & Ancient Sources.

You are also invited to take a Weekend Family Friendly Tour or a Meet Your Museum Tour either Saturday or Sunday. These are re-occuring events at the Museum of Art every weekend.

Shawn Luby, will present a classical guitar concert: From Bach to the Beatles and Beyond on Saturday afternoon at the Burwell School Historic Site.

Lloyd Arneach will present a Music of the Carolinas concert at the North Carolina Museum of History Sunday afternoon. Born and raised on the Qualla Boundary of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation, he tells "old stories" of the Cherokee, along with contemporary stories he has collected over the years.

Marbles Kids Museum and Pinecone will join together to host a Kids Jam Sunday afternoon at Marbles. Musicians 18 and under are invited to bring their instruments and play along.

The Holly Springs Cultural Center will feature Hoodwinked Monday morning.

The Angry Birds Movie will be the featured flick Tuesday morning at the Halle Cultural Arts Center.
