It looks like we are going to have a beautiful, sunny weekend for the holiday weekend! This weekend also officially kicks off our fantastic festival season here in the Triangle!

July 5th was a stormy night in Holly Springs. Join them this Thursday night at Womble Park to enjoy the concert we missed back in July by the Embers featuring Craig Woolard.

Celebrate First Thursday in Downtown Mebane with special art exhibits and an outdoor showing of the movie "The Goonies."

Spend Thursday evening playing a round of Science Trivia during this week's Science Thursday events at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Oak City 7 is back Thursday night in Raleigh's City Plaza with the bands The Soul Psychedelique Celebrating the Life & Music of Prince, Captain & the Keels and Lowderstill.

First Friday Kicks Off the Weekend

First Friday means Family Fun Night at Bass Lake Park. Start the evening with arts & crafts, live animals and some fishing. Then join kid favorite Trish Miller for a childrens' concert or Dan the Magic Man's magic show.

Head on over to City Market to enjoy the sounds of Midnight Ramblers along with local artisans and local craft beers or the Morning Times Market with local artisans, live music, entertainment, and local craft beer.

The North Carolina Museum of History joins in on the First Friday fun with extended hours, samples from Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery, an opportunity to see the traveling exhibit Selma to Montgomery and see a screening of the feature film Selma.

Raleigh also boasts the First Friday Gallery Walk, as well as extended hours at Marbles Kids Museum and the Raleigh City Museum.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences kicks off fall first Fridays with a Teen Science Cafe. This month will bring a night of Science Trivia.

The North Carolina Museum of Art will feature the tunes of the Stephen Coffman Jazz Trio and the summer film The Martian Friday Night. Come back Saturday night for the cult classic film The Princess Bride.

The Carolina Inn in Downtown Chapel Hill will present the sounds of Big Fat Gap along with the food trucks Heavenly Smoke and Chirba Chirba Friday night.

Festivals and Fun

This weekend's African American Cultural Festival is a two-day cultural festival, that takes place annually on Labor Day weekend, in the center of Downtown Raleigh. The event offers a family-friendly, outdoor festival that features entertainment, visual artists, cultural displays and food & craft vendors.

They will be celebrating Birds of Prey at the North Carolina Zoo Saturday.

Its a Super Fun Saturday at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Join them to sample activities for the upcoming art camps, do arts and crafts and play games at the bimonthly event.

The Bull City Rumble comes to Downtown Durham on Saturday. The world-renowned vintage motorcycle and scooter rally is open to the public for viewing the annual bike show.

You are invited to the Tarheel Labor Day Cluster of Kennel Club Dog Shows. A different Kennel Club hosts competitions each day Friday through Monday and competitions include a Championship all breed dog show, obedience and rally trials.

Running Friday through Monday, the Treasures of the Earth Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show at the State Fairgrounds will offer a vast array of precious and semi-precious gem stones, pearls, beads & findings, minerals, fossils, and finished jewelry in gold and silver.

The State Fairgrounds will also host an Equestrian Exchange Consignment Sale.

The Raleigh Seafood Festival comes to the Fairgrounds both Saturday and Sunday with a variety of seafood vendors, live local bands, arts & crafts exhibits, in a great outdoor atmosphere. The will even have limited BBQ & Ribs for you land lovers.

Come spend an entire afternoon free from electronic devices Sunday afternoon as Wake Forest goes Unplugged ...and gets Connected. There will be free games and activities including sack and relay races, corn hole, and miniature golf. The evening will culminate in a concert featuring Dark Water Rising.

Also Sunday, get out of the kitchen and head on over to Durham Central Park for an afternoon Food Truck Rodeo. Along with over 50 Food Trucks on hand, there will be live music.

Music, Movies & History this weekend

Want to get inside Historic Yates Mill? Come on out for a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday. They will also be exploring a Side of History: Harvest-time for the Ingalls Saturday afternoon and taking an Orienteering Adventure Sunday.

3D Printng from Medicine to Space will be the theme of this week's Science Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. The Museum's special exhibit American Adventure will close on September 7th so make sure you experience the interactive year in colonial America before its gone.

Sundays In Hillsborough, Concerts & Carriage Rides are back this weekend.

Explore how goats are well adapted to climbing steep slopes and hear some baaaaad goat-related jokes with the Billy Goats Gruff on Wednesday at Historic Yates Mill County Park.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will be showing the film Me Before You Wedensday evening.

The Pickin' In The Pines Bluegrass Series boasts a month of weekly Wednesday evening Bluegrass concerts at Regency Park. This Wednesday will feature Swift Creek.

Local parks invite you to start the weekend fun Friday with Crowder by Night as they explore Nighttime Critters through games and crafts.

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for feathered friends early Saturday morning.

Take a September Stroll along the American Tobacco Trail down to the Beaver Creek Bridge Saturday morning.

Come explore the Milkweed Patch Saturday afternoon at Blue Jay Point County Park.
