What a greet weekend this is looking to be. There are a wide variety of concerts, movies, park events and historical programs throughout the weekend.

The weekend starts early with Thursday evening fun! From 3pm-7pm every Thursday, Marbles Kids Museum drops their admission price to $2 and stays open late for family fun.

Oak City 7 is back to Raleigh's City Plaza Thursday night featuring the bands Birds of Avalon, The Balsa Gliders and K-Hills Power of the Tongue.

Science Thursday at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences features extended hours and a competitive round of Science Trivia.

First Friday Fun

First Friday is always a blast in Downtown Raleigh! The North Carolina Museum of History joins the fun with Moonshine, NASCAR and Junior Johnson. Meet the legendary driver, watch a documentary short and a feature-length film, The Last American Hero and, while supplies last, get a sample of Midnight Moon, the 'shine that's earned Junior's approval!

The City of Raleigh Museum and Marbles Kids Museum feature extended hours and special activities.

Along with the Museums, local Raleigh galleries and restaurants host a Downtown Gallery Walk and there will be local artisans, live music by Midnight Ramblers, entertainment, and local craft beer at City Market.

Not too far outside of Downtown, the North Carolina Museum of Art will be jamming to the sounds of Ed Stephenson and the Paco Band in their lobby turned lounge and going on an exploration of Summer Sky. Also after dark, ages 21+ are invited to do some Stargazing in the Museum Park with beer and snacks.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will host an Art Exhibit Opening throughout their galleries Friday evening.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will bring Big Fat Gap to the stage along with the food truck D"Burritos.

Far from the city lights, Bass Lake invites you to bring the kids to the park for a Family Fun Night. Start off with some arts and crafts, meet a live animal, or borrow a fishing pole and then end the evening with either a magic show or a kid friendly concert.

Now is the most sultry period of Summer, known as the Dog Days because this time happens during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the Sun. Avoid the laze, get out of your daze and come and hear a "tail" or two about devoted dogs and discover how to identify dog star constellations Friday afternoon at Historic Yates Mill Park.

Blue Jay Point County Park invites you to a Twilight Hike Friday night to listen for the sounds of animals who only come out at night.

Festivals and Fun

Science Saturday returns to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences with a discussion about Drought. Also Saturday, join them at the Museum for a Live Video Chat from a Dinosaur Dig.

Join them at the Halle Cultural Arts Center for a Super Fun Saturday with free arts & crafts for children.

Grab on and discover the power behind the chomp in some of the NC Zoo's meat eating residents Saturday for Claws and Jaws.

The 2016 UNC Football Team will host the annual Meet the Heels Day Saturday at the Eddie Smith Field House.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host both a Bead Mercantile Show and a Finally Farm Show Series.

Join Associate Conservator Perry Hurt Sunday afternoon for a Lecture and Tour on History and Mystery: The Inside Story at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Powell Drive Neighborhood Park invites your whole family to the Annual Community Art Day Festival and Summer Concert Series Sunday. There will be fun art activities, live music, special performances by local dance groups, an art exhibition by community schools, an opportunity to purchase crafts from local art vendors and a concert by Brooke Hatala.

The Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo will bring over 50 food trucks to downtown Sunday afternoon along with tables and chair seating for over 1,000 people.

Monday is Watermelon Day at the Museum of Life and Science. Join them for special watermelon-themed animal programing. Bring a whole watermelon to share with your favorite Museum animals and learn more about the hot weather care of our animals.

Wake Audubon Society's Monthly Meeting Tuesday evening at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will feature a Member's Slide Show and potluck.

Music and Movies

The North Carolina Museum of Art will be showing the family favorite Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens on their big outdoor screen at dusk Friday night. They will show an encore presentation Saturday evening.

Come enjoy an outdoor concert by Étú-Bmík Saturday at the Apex Nature Park.

Christiane and the Strays will be Sunday's Concert in the Park at Carroll Joyner Park.

Dreamgirls will be this Sunday's Movie in the Garden at the Raleigh Little Theater. Come early to enjoy food trucks Healthy Grill on Wheels and Jam Ice Cream.

This week's Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Pocahontas II.

More at the Parks

Experience Harris Lake County Park overnight by joining their Family Campout. Relax around the fire with s"mores, take a night hike and enjoy other evening activities. The event starts Friday night and goes to Saturday morning.

Pokemon Go is here at Blue Jay Point County Park. Join them anytime during park hours to find several gyms and pokestops. Saturday they are hosting a PokeAdventure in the Park. Staff will be placing lures around the park throughout the afternoon to stir up any loose Pokemon.

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for feathered friends Saturday morning.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering Saturday at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. They will also be doing some Hot Weather Hiking and having some Water Balloon Fun Saturday afternoon. Bring your own balloons and prepare to get wet!

Blue Jay Point County Park will be exploring Weird Nature Saturday morning on a short hike.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning invites you to take a Butterfly Walk with them Saturday.

Sunday at Falls Lake State Recreation Area, join a park ranger to learn about the Magical World of Dragonflies.

Crowder District Park will be exploring Terrific Trees Sunday afternoon through games and hands-on activities.

Also talking about trees, you are invited to join an Eno River State Park Naturalist a hike on the Buckquarter Creek Trail learning how to Identify Trees.

Join Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park Sunday for National Lighthouse Day to hear the true heroic tale of Abbie Burgess, a young woman who was forced to run her family"s lighthouse alone in the winter of 1856. Play a lighthouse game and make your own model lighthouse to take home.

Kids are welcome to Learn to Fish at Occoneechee Mountain Wednesday morning.
