Laurel Hills Park invites the whole family to join them for a Family Nature Night Thursday evening and learn all about Lightning Bugs.

First Friday Happenings

The A/V Geeks at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences present the Last First Friday Movie Night. This will be the final time the Museum stays open on First Friday. You can attend the A/V Geeks festivities, wander through the exhibits, groove to live music with Toynbee and attend an opening reception for Nancy Nieves show "A Personal Look at Nature."

Celebrate First Friday with the Raleigh City Museum, stroll around Downtown Raleigh to take in the First Friday Gallery Walk or head over to Marbles Kids Museum.

First Friday at the NC Museum of History includes beer samples from Haw River Farmhouse Ales and an evening all about Shakespeare and His First Folio.

Enjoy Pre-Peakfest Music in Downtown Apex Friday night featuring classic and contemporary hits with the band Peak City Sound.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn features the sounds of Franklin St. Band and the food trucks Chick-N-Que and Bam Pow Chow.

Minions will be the featured flick at Friday night's Movies in the Park in Morrisville.

Art in the Evening returns to the North Carolina Museum of Art with music by Ed Stephenson and the Paco Band, a discussion on Back to Baccus, and the film, By Sidney Lumet.

Crowder District Park will explore Fantastic Frogs Friday after dark.

Holly Springs will be celebrating Family Fun Night at Bass Lake Park. Kick off the evening by making some arts and crafts, meeting a live animal, or borrowing a fishing pole. End the night with a fun interactive concert with kid favorite, Trish Miller or a magic show with Dan the Magic Man.

Festivals and Special Events at Triangle Parks

If you missed Spring Daze in Cary last weekend, you have a chance this weekend to enjoy Apex Peakfest. A wonderful variety of crafters and artisans will be on hand displaying their creations while the stages will boast live family entertainment all day. Not only will there be an assortment of yummy festival food, but also a tempting collection of international fare. There will even be a Kids Zone area with rides and games for the younger population.

Historic Oak View will host their annual Antique Auto Show Saturday. Come see antique cars displayed on the grounds at Oak View and watch the Triangle Chapter assemble their 1917 Take Apart Model T.

Saturday is Kids Appreciation Day in Holly Springs. Kids are treated to free food along with inflatables, face painting, arts & crafts, music, a motorcycle & fire engine display and the Terrific Kids Ceremony at Sugg Farm Park.

The Oaks and Spokes Bicycling Festival 2016 continues with daily events through Sunday. Join them for Bike Polo, a Bike Art Show, a Bike Rodeo and a CycloFemme Ride.

Downtown Cary will also host En Plein Air Paint the Town Saturday. The streets will come alive as artists take to the streets to Paint the Town!

Meet in the Street is back to downtown Wake Forest Saturday. Join them for a day filled with food and entertainment including live music and children's activities. They will also host a Bike Safety Fair in Wake Forest Saturday for kids 5-14.

Saturday is the annual Friends of the Page-Walker Herbfest in Cary. Tour the gardens; stroll through booths selling a wide variety of herbs, crafts and garden products; and be there for the butterfly release.

Gnomes & Fairies Spring up at Prairie Ridge Saturday to celebrate spring with scavenger hunts , balloon animals, a gnome and fairy village, story time, ladybug hunts and a parade.

Saturday at Nash Square there will be a parade and Memorial Service to honor Fallen Firefighters.

Bring your dog to Canine Field Day Saturday at Rock Quarry Park. There will be games, demonstrations, vendors and food trucks.

Also in Durham, as part of the Art of Cool Festival, Paint Durham is a art,music and culture showcase held in downtown Durham.

Fun at the Parks

The farmer's markets are still celebrating their Grand Openings. Holly Springs will kick off the season this Saturday with plenty of fresh produce.

Join rangers Saturday at Durant Nature Park to Sample Durant. You can enjoy live animals, bird watching, fun crafts, nature scavenger hunt, dip-netting in the lake, canoeing and fishing!

Join Lake Crabtree County Park's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for our birds Saturday morning.

Take a May Flower Folly around Yates Mill Pond Saturday while searching for the many marvelous wildflowers that are in bloom, and listen to a few flowery poems along the way. They will also be conducting Old Mill Tours Saturday and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday.

C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) is back to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area Saturday. Bring your kids to learn basic fishing techniques.

Falls Lake State Recreation Area will explore Nature's Magnificent Moms Saturday afternoon. Come learn about Moms of the Animal Kingdom.

This Sunday's Spring Hike at West Point on the Eno take a Mountain Laurels & Mother's Day Hike.

Yates Mill invites you to take a Habitat Hike & Pond Study Tuesday afternoon. Come use dip nets, hand lenses & microscopes to survey the pond's "macro-invertebrates".

Music & Museums

The North Carolina Museum of History celebrates their Exhibit Opening: First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare Saturday. Along with exploring the exhibit, you are invited to take a tour of Shakespeare's Garden. They will present a Music of the Carolinas concert Sunday afternoon featuring the Zinc Kings.

Science Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will explore a Lifelong Passion for Insects. Teens are invited to come back Saturday for a Teen Night at the Museum. Join them for after-hours fun including music and dancing, tasty treats, photo booth silliness, and ocean exploration!

The North Carolina Zoo will host their annual Birds and Blooms event on Saturday.

The Durham Symphony will present a Pops in the Park concert at Trinity Park Saturday evening.

The Durham Symphony will play another Pops in the Park concert Sunday afternoon at Cameron Park.

Make something special to share with your mom Sunday at Marbles Kids Museum's Mother's Day MakeShop.

The Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series is back again at Carroll Joyner Park with Affimative Groove.

On Monday, the planet Mercury will transit between the Earth and the Sun for the first time in nearly a decade. Come out to safely observe this rare astronomical event through safe, solar-filtered telescopes at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

Bennett Place Historic Site will hold a Confederate Memorial Day Observance all day Tuesday.
