Happy Valentines Day! Have a wonderful day with your special people on Sunday. This will be a jam packed weekend full of festivals, history, art and birdwatching!

Friday through Monday is the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count. See below for all the details, but there are lots of fun opportunities to contribute to the count and learn all about our local feathered friends.

Art, Music & History this weekend

Twilight $2 Thursdays lets you have fun at Marbles Kids Museum after hours every Thursday for only $2 admission! Come back to Marbles Saturday for I HEART to Play Day! Explore fun ways to get your heart pumping .

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences also stays open late every Thursday night. Along with the extended hours, you can attend a Science Cafe discussing the Flame Retardants in Your Home: Weighing the Risks.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will show a free screening of the film Many Beautiful Things the Life and Vision of Lilias Trotter Thursday evening. Bring everyone back Friday night for a Family Dance complete with a traditional dance caller and old-time string band.

Friday at the NC Museum of History you are invited to bring in up to three objects to the museum for assessment and advice on care from their conservators. Conservation Assistance Day does require an appointment so make sure to call ahead. Justin LeBlanc will present a lecture on High-Tech Carolina Couture and curators will offer an African American History Highlights Tour Saturday at the History Museum. To round out the weekend at the History Museum, join them Sunday for a concert by alternative-country blues singer, Amythyst Kiah.

Friday night at the NC Museum of Art makes a great date night with Friday Night Sound Bites that focus on Transformation or Transcendence. Sidecar Social Club will provide live music for Art in the Evening. After you wander the galleries, stay for the 1979 film, All That Jazz.

The fun continues all weekend at the NC Museum of Art. Check out a Weekend Family Friendly Tour or explore the 164 acre campus on a Meet Your Museum Tour. Saturday they will also offer a Special Guided Tour of the Museum Park. Sunday you can enjoy a Pop-Up Art opportunity to make a love-themed collage.

The monthly Discovery Series at the Holly Springs Cultural Center continues Friday evening with Professionals - "A Night of Dance, Music, Drama and More!"

The Holly Springs Cultural Center will be showing Brave Saturday Morning and The Borrowers Monday morning.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will be showing Pooh's Heffalump Movie as their Tuesday Morning Movie.

Festivals and Shows

Spend Saturday learning about Charles Darwin and what his theories of natural selection have done for the world of science, research and education. Darwin Day on Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will celebrate Darwin's theories through hands-on science-education stations, speakers, displays of cutting edge research, crafts and games for all ages!

Bring your Valentine to the State Fairgrounds this weekend. Starting Thursday and running all weekend, the NC International Auto Expo will highlight new production models and concept cars with car, truck and sports utility vehicle manufacturers on display.

The Fairgrounds will also host the three day Sportscard and Sports Memorabilia Show. They will have over 80 exhibitors as well as featured autobiography guests.

The Great Backyard Bird Count

This weekend celebrates the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count. A national four day event that encourages bird watchers to count birds and report their results online to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The Bird Count is a featured event at several parks around the Triangle. Some of the events do require registration so click through for all the details.

Harris Lake joins in the festivities all four days with an Introduction to Birdwatching and the GBBC, a Birding Wagon Ride, an Owl Prowl, the Harris Lake Bird Walk and a program on Majestic Eagles.

Crowder District Park invites you to join them for Night Birds, a Bird Bonanza and an Afternoon Bird Count.

Historic Yates Mill County Park also welcomes you to join into the Bird count for Breakfast with the Birds Saturday and Love Birds Sunday.

Lake Crabtree County Park is hosting Bird Count Walks each morning Friday through Monday, Birdie Benefits on Saturday, and for kids, Become a Birdwatcher on Monday.

Meet up with other birders Friday morning for a guided Bird Walk along the American Tobacco Trail.

Blue Jay Point County Park will host an Owl Prowl Friday night and Counting is for the Birds Monday. Enjoy a couple of bird stories, some fun bird activities then get out and count.

Gather at Kids Together Playground at Marla Dorrel Park to Count the Birds Saturday as you identify birds by species and record the number of each that you see. Then enjoy refreshments as they tally the results.

Join a Jordan Lake Park Ranger for talks on Winter Birds and Eagles Saturday morning.

More to do at the Parks

Doc Ellen, a retired veterinarian who has turned to nature photography as a new past time has donated a new photo gallery to Jordan Lake. Come Meet the Photographer Saturday and see her exhibit showcasing the bald eagles of Jordan Lake.

Come to Eno River State Park Sunday to take a tour and learn about the Historic Piper Cox House history and the colonial period. You can even try your hand at some colonial games.

Spend Sunday morning with your sweetie on the trails of Little River Park for a Valentine's Day Nature Walk.

Sunday's Winter Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Laurel Bluffs Trail.
