The heat is on and it feels like summer! There are a whole bunch of outdoor concerts and movies so you can enjoy your summer evenings after the sun goes down.

Movies at the Parks and Museums

The week of kid's movies continues at the Halle Cultural Arts Center through Friday.  Friday features Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
 
They will blow up the 30-foot outdoor inflatable screen Friday night at Lake Benson Park to show SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water. After the movie, families are invited to set up a tent and stay for a Family Camp Night. The movie is free, but there is a fee to camp.
 
Flashback Friday returns to City Plaza Friday night with the classic movie Back to the Future. I believe June 9, 2015 was the future date that they set the Delorean's time machine to. Go early and dance to DJ Music and grab dinner at a food truck.
 
A bounce house, food trucks, music and games will kick off the evening at Morrisville Community Park Friday night. Stay after the sun goes down for the movie Paddington.
The Starring North Carolina! Film Series will be showing the 1986 classic Blue Velvet Friday evening at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
How to Train Your Dragon 2 will be the movie Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 
The Apex Nature Park will be showing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 on the outdoor screen Saturday after dusk.
 
The powerful movie, The Imitation Game will be shown on the big outdoor screen Saturday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
 

Music for everyone at outdoor concerts.

Concerts throughout the Triangle kick off Thursday and continue through Sunday.
 
The Live and Local Music & Arts Series brings the BarHop String Quartet and 2nd Friday Art Walk to Downtown Chapel Hill.
 
Also in Chapel Hill, BFG will be playing the tunes and dinner will be provided by Bam Pow Chow and Barone Meatballs Friday evening on the front porch of the Carolina Inn.
Art After Hours will liven up Downtown Wake Forest Friday night with food, merchants and music!
 
The Summer at the Springs Concert Friday night in Holly Springs will feature the jazz, rock, Latin, pop, and funk superstars, the Will McBride Group.

The Triangle Wind Ensemble presents Pops in the Park Friday night at the Sertoma Amphitheater. Come back Saturday to hear a concert with Lynda Dawson & Pattie Hopkins.
 
Ed Stephenson and the Paco Band will be playing the tunes Friday night during the North Carolina Museum of Art's extended hours and the weekly Sound Bite will focus on Preserving Peace.
 
Traditional Dance Caller, Connie Carringer will teach fun dances for the whole family along with an old-time string band at Friday night's Family Dance at the Halle Cultural Arts Center.
 
This week's Sunday in the Park Concert will feature the big band jazz sounds of the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra at Fred Fletcher Park.
 
This month's Music of the Carolinas concert at the North Carolina Museum of History Sunday features the duo of Bill Myers and Dick Knight playing blues, jazz, and gospel tunes.

Fun & Festivals Around the Triangle

They will be celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the North Carolina State Capitol Saturday with a party. Come enjoy a Cornerstone re-dedication ceremony, live music, crafts, exhibits, lectures, historic sites, military re-enactors, kids" activities, food vendors, and free birthday cake. There will also be a Barbecue & Bluegrass Birthday Bash Saturday evening that requires tickets.
 
The North Carolina Museum of History celebrates 2nd Saturdays with Herbalicious and a Make and Take Garden Journal.
 
Come celebrate the NC Zoo's African Giants: elephants, rhinos and giraffes and learn about their enormous creature features Saturday.
 
Historic Bentonville Battlefield will present a Day in the Life of a Civil War Soldier on Saturday with Re-enactors on hand to discuss the typical soldier's life, uniform and equipment. Artillery and musket demonstrations will be held throughout the day.
 
 
Over 50 trucks will be on hand Sunday for the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo.
 
The Burwell School Historic Site will host two performances of an original play about Elizabeth Keckly by Maureen Quilligan & Michael Malone and directed by Francesca Talenti on Sunday.

Historic Yates Mill County Park invites you to take a Half-Hour Tour on Saturday or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday of the fully restored mill. Kids ages 5-7 are invited to Explore the history and lore of the American Flag Friday.
 
Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences lets you Get to Know the Cicadas of North Carolina.
Play some Family Bingo at Bass Lake Park Friday night.
 
Eno River State Park invites you to Snakes Alive Friday afternoon. Come back Sunday to learn about the restored Piper Cox Open House.
Rangers at Durant Nature Park will be having Fun with Fireflies after dark Friday.
 
Kids can learn how to become a Junior Ranger Saturday at Umstead State Park or learn to Fish at Jordan Lake.
