All the warm weather and sunshine sure make it feel like summer is here! Along with summer in the Triangle comes a wonderful assortment of outdoor concerts and summer movies on the lawn. Grab a blanket and some snacks and enjoy the season!

 

This week we have listed over 60 events! We will highlight some of the exciting events, but for the whole list of everything going on throughout the Triangle, make sure you go to the ParkGeek.com Event Search. Put in this weekend's dates and start planning a fabulous weekend.

A little outside the Triangle but well worth the drive, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro will be presenting Laser Beatles, a laser show that combines the classic sound of the Beatles and an amazing laser light show that dances across the OmniSphere Theater"s 40-foot dome with 3 showtimes Thursday evening.

Raleigh's concert series, Oak City 7 returns this Thursday in City Plaza. Admission is free. This week's concert will feature the bands On the Border, the Katelyn Reed Band and the Color Exchange.

The Mark Schimick String Band and Scythian will round out the Back Porch Music on the Lawn of the American Tobacco Campus Thursday evening.

Thursday nights are always special at Marbles Kids Museum where you can stay late and enjoy Twilight $2 Thursdays.

Want to unwind Thursday evening? Head over to Harris Lake County Park for some Yoga at the Lake.

Ecology You Can Eat - North Carolina's Estuarine Fishes will be the topic of this Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Friday Kicks off the Weekend

The Red Hat Amphitheater will host a 95X Block Party featuring the Cold War Kids and special guest Wild Fur. The free concert Friday night will have general admission seating so no tickets are required.

The Downtown Raleigh Movie Series is traveling back to the '80's this summer! This Friday, join them for the classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Come early to dance and jam out to your favorite 80s tunes from DJ Alex Choi of Vox DJ and enjoy dinner at one of the food trucks.

The Live and Local Music & Arts Series will feature the feelgood pop music of Suitcase and the uplifting video "Can't Stop."

The Triangle Brass Band will present Pops in the Park at Bond Park Friday evening.

Friday night is happening at the NC Museum of Art this week. Art in the evening features music by Peter Lamb and the Wolves and the Sound Bite will explore What's In A Name.

Last Friday Art Walk in Downtown Historic Hillsborough features children's' activities, art galleries, shops, restaurants, churches, museums and historic sites all remain open and offer numerous special events along with a family friendly drumming circle.

Along with the family favorite Big Hero 6, there will be live entertainment, games, themed activities and free popcorn & drinks Friday night at Womble Park.

Join them at Morrisville Community Park Friday night for their summer movie series also featuring Big Hero 6. Come early and enjoy dinner from one of the food trucks.

The North Carolina Museum of History will screen Farmland Friday night. The film documents farmers and ranchers in their 20s who are now responsible for running their own farms. There will be a Q&A with local farmers after the movie.

Movies by Moonlight at Regency Park Friday night will be showing The Imitation Game.

Weekend Music and Movies

Pack a picnic and come to the North Carolina Museum of Art Saturday after dark to enjoy the movie Star Trek Into Darkness.

Join the North Carolina Museum of History's garden staff for an informal tour of the History of the Harvest exhibit along Bicentennial Plaza and see what's going on out there!

Charlotte's Web will be the featured flick Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

Six Sundays in Spring Concerts continue this weekend with Gravy Boys at Carroll Joyner Park.

This week's Sunday in the Park Concert will feature Folk, rock, country and Americana music with the band Milagro Saints at Fred Fletcher Park.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will be showing the movie, Big Eyes Wednesday evening.

Al Strong Quintet will be this Wednesday's featured artist at Regency Park's Hob Nob Jazz Series.

Fabulous Festivals

Learn about the restoration effort to bring the historic Sycamore Group Camp and Mess Hall back into life after 30 years of non-use during the Celebration of the Sycamore Mess Saturday at Umstead State Park. They will also have folks on hand that have stayed at Sycamore in their youth that will share what it was like and how it impacted their lives.

Ritmo Latino is a free family festival that showcases Latino music, dance and arts in Cary on Saturday. The festival includes live music, vendors, artists, Latin foods, dance lessons for adults and activities for children. Click through for the schedule of entertainment.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host a Toy Train Sale & Swap Meet, a Horse Show, the NC Strongest Man & Woman-USAPL NC State Championships and ReefSMART.

Fun at the Parks

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering 1/2 Hour Tours of the restored mill Saturday and 1 Hour Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. Seniors are invited to join a Seniors Stay Fit Nature Walk Monday morning.

Kids are invited to Harris Lake County Park Saturday for a Beginning Fishing Clinic. Come back Sunday to learn Fly Fishing Basics.

They will also be introducing kids to the fun of fishing during C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) Saturday morning at Jordan Lake.

Bring your (leashed!) best buddy to hike, play, and socialize with other dogs for Park pups - Sniff and Greet at Cole Mill Saturday at Eno River State Park. Canoe the Eno Wednesday morning.

Take a Nature Photo Hike Sunday afternoon with a ranger at Umstead Park.

Crowder District Park invites little ones to several children's programs this week. Click through for the ages and times.

The first Tuesday of the month in June July and August will be designated a Tuesday for Tots at Regency Park. Join them for a fun filled morning of story-telling, creative movement and play, stroller walks around Symphony Lake and more.
