The cooler temperatures may move back in this weekend, but whether you choose to bundle up and enjoy the fall color or have your fun indoors, there is plenty to do in the Triangle.

Happy Halloween

Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will feature a Halloween Fun Night! There will be a Costume Contest, Cake Walk, Pumpkin carving contest, Marshmallow trebuchet launching, Creepy Crawly Animals on display, a Duck Taxidermy Demonstration and the World of the Weird in the Micro World Investigate Lab.

The Adult/Teen version of Scare-o-lina Skies returns to the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center Thursday evening. Madness and Mayhem in the Night Sky will explore the dark legends behind the constellations!

 
Celebrate Halloween at Marbles now through Sunday with events like the Ghostbuster Challenge, the Monster Science Lab and Frankentoys. All activities are included in admission and costumes are encouraged.
 
Also at Marbles, their Family Fun Night "Spooktacular" Wednesday evening is a free event exclusively for kids with special needs and their families. Along with special activities, there will be a free lower-volume showing of Hidden Universe 3D in the IMAX theater.
 
Get in the Halloween spirit and go Batty for Bats Thursday after the sun sets at Eno River State Park.
 
Also Thursday after dark, go on a hike to explore the creepy critters that come out at night as they search for the Monsters of the Millpond at Historic Yates Mill County Park.
 
Do some Spooky Science in The Lab of the Museum of Life and Science through November 1st.
 
They invite you to decorate your trunk and pass out candy to the Trick or Treaters at the Trunk or Treat Thursday night in Durham Central Park.
 
Bring your best Pumpkin over to the Carrboro Town Commons Friday for the Pumpkin Carving Contest. The pumpkins will be displayed at the Annual Halloween Carnival. The Carnival will boast carnival style activities that reward your participation with wickedly good prizes.
 
Hallow-Eno is a celebration of Halloween featuring hay rides, campfire stories, entertainment and spooky treats at West Point on the Eno Friday night.
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art celebrates Halloween Friday night with a Sound Bite, Reggie Fest: Halloween Beer Bar and Magic and the 1941 Betty Grable movie I Wake Up Screaming.
 
Homegrown Halloween will be attracting a huge crowd again this Halloween. Click through for some of the rules and regulations set up to keep the event safe.
 
Bring the kids to Trick or Treat in Downtown Fuquay-Varina before the sun goes down Friday afternoon.
 
Put on your costume and trick-or-treat your way around their one mile loop trail at White Deer Park's Trick-or-Treat the Trails Friday evening.
 
Search out candies and treats as you walk along the Trick-or-Treat Trail and through "The Story of North Carolina" Friday night during extended hours at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
Fall Festivals and Fun
 
Pack a picnic lunch and some scarecrow accessories Saturday morning and head on over to the Pullen Art Center for the annual Scarecrow Festival.

 

The North Carolina Museum of Art invites you to their Fall Family Day Saturday with demonstrations by the Cary Ballet Company, family tours of the museum, art activities and the exhibit: Making Faces: A Portrait of the NCMA's Youth Artists.

Its the annual Day in Downtown in Fuquay Varina Saturday. Along with two stages with continuous live entertainment, there will be the anticipated Chili Cook-Off.

Join them for the 5th annual Guy Fawkes Night Saturday in Downtown Raleigh. Live music, food, drinks, fire performers, entertainment, and more.

The State Fair is over, but the fun at the Fairgrounds continues this weekend with the Triangle Farms Hunter Jumper Horse Show.

The Jump for the Children Horse Show....benefiting Duke Children's Hospital starts Tuesday and runs through next Sunday. The Olympic Style jumping competitions are free to watch except for Saturday night and families are welcome to walk through the barns to see the horses before and after competitions.

Head on over to the Halle Cultural Arts Center Tuesday evening to enjoy the Apex High School Stirngs Concert & Fundraiser with performances by the Apex High School Orchestra and the Guitar Ensemble.

Enjoy Fall at the Parks

November is Pecan Pickin' Month at Historic Oak View County Park. Feel free to come on out and harvest a few pecans for yourself from their grove of pecan trees. While your there, explore the Farm History Center, the Plank Kitchen, the Restored Home and Cotton Barn.

Umstead State park invites you to join them Thursday afternoon for two programs, the History of Umstead State Park and Millin' Around.
 
Along with going Birding with Vernon Saturday morning at Lake Crabtree, you are invited to become a backyard scientist and help collect data for Project Feeder Watch.
 
Join them at Prairie Ridge Ecostation every Saturday morning to learn how you can be a part of a Citizen Science Project.
 
In addition to the Saturday and Sunday tours of the fully restored mill, Historic Yates Mill County Park invites you to join them for a Fall Colors Hike Saturday afternoon. They will also be hosting a Home School Day on Monday to celebrate Sandwich Day and the importance of grains.
 
Help prepare craft and educational materials to be used at their upcoming special events and educational programs Saturday during a Volunteer Workday at Blue Jay County Park.
 
Take in an Astronomy Viewing Session with Morehead Planetarium educators after dark Saturday at Jordan Lake.

Culture around the Triangle

Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure will be the featured family movie Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Come back Monday morning for Flubber.
 
Extinction is Forever: Or it It? That will be the topic of this month's Science Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
 
Enjoy a free one-hour docent-led tour of the Small Treasures exhibition Sunday morning at the North Carolina Museum of Art. There are only a limited number of slots, so reserve your space in advance for this rare opportunity.
