It looks like we are going to have a beautiful, hot, sunny weekend. With Fall right around the corner, this weekend officially kicks off our fantastic festival season here in the Triangle!

 

Take a Trip Around the World in Downtown Mebane this Thursday! The First Thursday International Promenade features 14 different downtown businesses highlighting the flavors from around the world. Click through for all the details.

 

The American Tobacco Campus celebrates its tenth anniversary with another Back Porch Music on the Lawn Concert Thursday featuring Chatham County Line and Michael Rank!

First Friday Kicks Off the Weekend

Take an Afternoon Adventure at JC Raulston Arboretum since the kids have a half day. Explore the gardens while you search for 5 trivia questions.

 

At lunchtime Friday, its Grape Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh. There will be North Carolina Wine Tasting, Grape Sampling, Free Recipes and a wide variety of local grapes for sale.

First Friday means Family Fun Night at Bass Lake Park. Start the evening with arts & crafts, live animals and some fishing. Then join kid favorite Trish Miller for a childrens' concert or Dan the Magic Man's magic show.

Hopefully the skies will stay clear Friday night because there are some fun outdoor movies. Fuquay Varina is showing Charlotte's Web and Garner is showing Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.

Along with showing Grand Budapest Hotel Friday night, the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature the tunes of David Dyer and the Crooked Smile Band, a Sound Bite on Bodies in Motion and an opportunity to Meet the Artists in their new exhibit Line, Touch, Trace.

"Return of the Fly" will be the featured flick for First Friday Movie Night at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Along with the movie, you can enjoy an opening reception for the Pastel Society of North Carolina's show "Horizons: Touching the Sky" and explore the museum after hours.

As an added bonus this Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, teachers are invited to a free Educator Open House where you can meet scientists and staff, win door prizes sign-up for amazing professional development workshops and browse tables of FREE natural history and educational items.

Raleigh also boasts the First Friday Gallery Walk, extended hours at Marbles Kids Museum & the Raleigh City Museum and live entertainment at City Market.

1st Friday in Mebane boasts live music, refreshments, book signings, drawings and this month, Food Truck Friday with Boss Hog and his famous Stuffed Hush Puppies.

The Seven O'clock Rock Series in Downtown Cary starts off with a free dance lesson and then features Rock & Blues Night with Peak City Blues Project.

Festivals & Fun

Hopscotch Music Festival comes to Raleigh starting Thursday night and running through Saturday. There will be 160 bands playing at 12 different venues. Tickets are required for the concerts so click through for more information.

 

 

The Harris Energy & Environmental Center invites you to their annual Community Day. Tour the control room simulator, an exact replica of the nuclear plant's control room, and learn about plant operations, energy efficiency, emergency preparedness and more.

Saturday is Vulture Awareness Day at the North Carolina Zoo.

Join ESUMC for the 3rd Annual E-Street Block Party in Downtown Raleigh. Enjoy fun, fellowship, live entertainment, bounce houses, rock climbing wall, basketball, games and free hot dogs & snacks.

Promoted by the country's oldest gourd society, the Annual North Carolina Gourd Arts & Crafts Festival features more than 70 growing, crafting, and artistic competitive categories, as well as workshops and vendors of gourd crafts, dried gourds, and gourd crafting supplies.

The State Fairgrounds will host a Benefit Concert featuring the Johnny Orr Band, Serge Padilla, Chino Casiano, Lea Chiurco, Orquesta Gardel, Ricardo Diquez, Anthony Alvarez, Yanett La Regia de Monterrey, Clef Hangers, Norman Lowewenthal, Eusebic Gonzalez and Pavelid, and an intermission fashion show on Saturday.

The Light 103.9 FM is hosting its annual Unity in the Community Day at the Fairgrounds to honor our service men and women with a day of family fun with vendors, activities for the kids, and an inspirational concert featuring both local and national recording artists.

The State Fairgrounds will also host a Classic Horse Show and a Fall RV Sale.

The American Tobacco Campus is celebrating their 10th Anniversary with a Block Party Sunday! There will be two stages with bands and community performances along with an art exhibit.

African Monoons & Atlantic Hurricanes will be the theme of this week's Science Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Join them to congratulate the Umstead Coalition Photography Contest winners with an Award Reception and Special Exhibit at Umstead State Park Saturday afternoon.

The Sword and the Stone will be the featured flick Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Come back Monday for the movie, Happy Feet.

40 East will be the featured band for Saturday night's Outdoor Concert at the Apex Nature Park.

Saturday marks the Second Annual The Big Lebowski Dude Abides Party at the North Carolina Museum of Art. In addition to the movie, there will be a variety of Food Trucks.

Rissi Palmer will be the featured artist for this week's Sunday in the Park Concert at Pullen Park.

The Pickin' In The Pines Bluegrass Series boasts a month of weekly Thursday evening Bluegrass concerts at Regency Park. This Wednesday will feature Tommy Edwards & Carolina Lighting with Special Guests Matt Hooper & Swift Creek.

Both our local parks and area towns have adapted weekday programs for home schoolers and the year round tracks. Holly Springs is offering Circus Camp September 15th-19th, Yates Mill has a program on Beatrix Potter September 25th, Crowder is offering a Bird Camp September 23rd-25th and Blue Jay Point has a 3 day Mini Camp on September 8th, 10th & 12th.

The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Football Competition will take place Friday in Holly Springs for kids ages 6-15. The event is free, but kids need to be registered by Thursday.

 

 

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for feathered friends early Saturday morning.

Eno River State Park invites you to join them for a Morning Hike to Cox Mountain early Saturday and a Waterbug Exploration in the afternoon. Come back Sunday for a Morning Hike to Holden Mill and a Frogs & Polliwog program.

Come out and help clean up Lake Johnson Park with NC Big Sweep Saturday morning. They will have canoes and kayaks available to help pick up loose trash in and around the lake or you can bring your own canoe or kayak,
