This weekend is a transition between the summer movies and concerts and the fall festivals and harvest celebrations.

 
The week of Free Kid's Movies at the Halle Cultural Arts Center comes to a close with Wreck-it-Ralph on Thursday and Turbo on Friday morning. Thursday evening is Pizza and a Movie Night at the Halle featuring the family flick, The Nut Job.
 
Oak City 7 is back in Downtown Raleigh Thursday night with the bands The Posies, I Was Totally Destroying It, Dragmatic, Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey and Lowderstill.
 
Its Game Night along with Science Thursday after hours at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Bring the whole family to enjoy new and old board games. The Science Cafe will explore the many and varied uses of marine products.
 
Thursday is also the first Follow Me 2 Fuquay-Varina Concert in Centennial Square. The series will highlight family friendly regional acts along with local craft breweries, vineyards and eateries. Thursday's concert features the Band Crush.
 
Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to the Page-Walker Arts & History Center Thursday and enjoy an authentic German music concert with the Little German Band.
 
Festivals & Family Fun
 
The annual Lazy Days Arts & Crafts Festival is back this weekend in downtown Cary. Along with an amazing array of artists and crafters displaying their wares, the festival boasts lots of great festival food, non-stop, live entertainment and a festival within a festival, Kids World.

 

The Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Raleigh Area brings the Annual Children's Good News Spectacular to the State Fair Grounds this Saturday. Children can enjoy inflatible games and rides, popcorn, snow cones and drinks, and an illusion show blended with several gospel presentations all for free.
 
They're looking for the Best Dog Tricks in Wake County over at Crowder Park this Sunday. If your dog has a special talent, come and show them off. There will be prizes for both youth and adults.
 
The Page-Walker Arts & History Center will host an Artist Reception Friday night for the photographer Anne Atkinson.
 
Its TicketFest 2014 Friday night at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Stop by to get tickets to the 2014-2015 Performing Arts season before the Summer at the Springs Outdoor Concert with Band of Oz.
 
Its another Super Fun Saturday at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Join them to sample activities for the upcoming art camps, do some arts and crafts and play some games
 
Downtown Raleigh is hosting the CaribMask Festival on Saturday. The event is a Caribbean Carnival boasting extravagant costumes, a festival village, Caribbean performers, delectable authentic Caribbean cuisine, dancing, vendors and more.
 
Laurel Hills Park is the place to be Tuesday night for the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition. The event allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. It is open to both boys and girls ages 6-15.

History
 
Discover Historic Yates Mill, a place of business, community, and exciting local history! Explore the inner workings of the mill itself and witness the power of water as it turns the milling machinery this weekend by taking a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday.

 

You can also enjoy the park from a different perspective and Paddle the Pond Saturday or learn How Smart are Fish on Sunday.
 
Join them for an Evening Tour of the Living Conservatory Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and get a glimpse of the sloth at his most active time. Combine your ticket to experience the Rainforest Adventure.
 
Join a Historic Preservation Society of Durham volunteer on a Durham Architecture & the Urban Landscape Walking Tour to learn about the many architectural styles popular in the 20th century in Durham.
 
Come and learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders as you explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist on a Geology Hike Saturday morning.
 
Members of the 27th NC Co. D will demonstrate Civil War Camp Life Saturday at Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site. There will even be infantry demonstrations throughout the day!
 
Movies & Music
 
Come to Womble Park Friday night to enjoy the movie Frozen along with live entertainment, games, themed activities, and free popcorn & drinks. There will even be pizza and ice cream available for purchase.

 

Art in the Evening returns to the NC Museum of Art with live music by the Hey Brothers and an Art Exploration about Bringing Old Techniques to Modern Art. Friday night's outdoor movie will be the 2013 film, Nebraska. Bring the kids back Saturday after dark for The LEGO Movie.
 
The Band of Oz will provide the music for Friday night's family friendly Summer at the Springs Outdoor Concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 
Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, treat your kids to the movie, Robots. Monday's morning movie will be The Ant Bully.
 
This Saturday's Movie By Moonlight at Regency Park will be a special Grease Sing-a-Long. There will be a fully interactive screening of the classic film with on-screen subtitles, a costume competition and free goody bags.
 
They will also be showing The Lego Movie Saturday night at the Apex Nature Park Amphitheatre.
 
As a great finale to the weekend, the Trophy Husbands will be performing Sunday evening out at Fletcher Park.

Outdoors
 
Join them at Eno River State Park Friday morning for a kid-friendly Scavenger Hunt to see what treasures you can find on the trail!

 

Bring your little ones to JC Raulston Arboretum Friday morning for a Garden Storytime.
 
2014 is the Year of the Lepidoptera so come out to Umstead State Park Friday morning and learn how to identify Butterflies & Moths. Come back Sunday to explore the park from the water on a Big Lake Boat-A-Bout. Want to learn some basic paddling skills? Take Canoeing Skills I Wednesday evening.
 
Check Harris Lake's Build a Beaver Program and then hike a portion of the Peninsula Trail to look for beavers Saturday morning.
 
Meet Crowder District Park staff Saturday on the boardwalk to discover Dragonflies and learn about the stages of the life cycle they go through.
 
The Hunt Horse Complex will host an Indoor Horse Show all weekend. The shows are a great opportunity to get your horse lover up close to the action.
 
Take a Walk Through the Seasons Tuesday at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation.
