Join a Park Ranger at William B. Umstead State Park Thursday for a peaceful hour of fishing on Big Lake. The CATCH program includes instruction on the basics of fresh water fishing, as well as how to identify the different species found in the lake. On Sunday afternoon, take a short guided hike along Potts Branch Trail as you learn about the critters that live in the park's Streams and Waterways.

Thursday night at Durant Nature Park, you are invited to take a Family Walk in the Park.

This weekend's Family Wildlife Series at Blue Jay Point County Park features creatures Slippery, Slidey and Slimey. Kids are welcome, but not required.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park invites you to join them for a Mill Heritage Tour. The tours incorporate a discussion about the Mill's business and social history, some background on the mill's owners and a guided tour of the first floor of the fully restored mill. The tours will run both Saturday and Sunday. If you haven't been over to Yates Mill County Park, it is a great weekend destination. The interpretive center has wonderful displays explaining how the mill worked and the wildlife that lives in the park. The mill is beautiful and there are some great trails and flower gardens around the park.

Magnificent Millipedes will be the featured critter at the American Tobacco Trail. Help them explore where they like to live as you roll logs and rocks to find the hidden creatures lurking underneath! Make a terrarium fit for the millipedes, pill bugs, earthworms and others that you may find on your search.
