The leaves are all coming down quickly now. I hope you have had a chance to get out and enjoy the crisp air, sunshine and incredible fall colors.

 This weekend we observe Veterans Day. Downtown Raleigh will commemorate the holiday with a Veterans Day Parade followed by a wreath laying and ceremony on Saturday. Music and static displays make up this perfect family day.
 
Holly Springs invites you to an observance at Veterans Park on Monday. Join local Boy Scouts for a flag ceremony.
 
During Veterans Day weekend (Saturday-Monday) all veterans, active duty military, and immediate family receive free admission to the the special exhibition Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed at the North Carolina Museum of Art
 
Celebrate Veterans Day at Marbles with patriotic activities all-day long Monday. Active military and their families will receive $1 off museum admission, $1 off IMAX documentaries and $2 off IMAX features. Plus, receive one free small popcorn with the purchase of an IMAX movie ticket all day.
 
While you celebrate our Veterans on Monday, head over to the American Tobacco Trail to take a hike to a wetland visible from the trail and look for evidence of Busy Beavers.

Fall Fun
November is Pecan Pickin' Month at Historic Oak View County Park. The grove has been scoured pretty well in the first few days of the month, but feel free to come on out and harvest a few pecans for yourself. In addition to the Pecans, make sure you purchase your quilt raffle ticket to help raise funds to renovate their Tenant House. The tickets will be on sale until Sleigh Rides & Cider on December 7th.

On top of the fabulous fall veggies and fruits featured every day at the NC State Farmers Market in Raleigh, this weekend brings a Fall Craft Fair.
 
Learn about fall tree identification as you create leaf "windows" to take home at Saturday's Family Wildlife Series Program at Blue Jay Point County Park.
 
Prairie Ridge Field Station invites you to join them Saturday for a Citizen Science Saturday and again on Tuesday for a Walk Through the Seasons.

Great Outdoor Fun for the Whole Family
 
Join an Eno River State Park Ranger Saturday to visit the ruins of the Breeze Homestead. This is an on/off trail adventure about Fanny Breeze and how she became a legend in this neck of the woods.

 

Discover Nature Journaling Saturday at Raven Rock State Park. Go on a nature journaling hike to the Overlook as you stop along the way to and from the Overlook to observe and record nature in words and drawings.
 
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area invites you to join them for an Astronomy Viewing Session Saturday after dark.
 
There will be an I Love Public School Rally Friday afternoon at the CCB PLaza. Come show your support for public schools, students & teachers and enjoy inspiring speeches by students, parents, and school workers, performances & fun activities for kids.
 
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park, is the perfect venue for that fall family picture (and a whole bunch of people are doing just that ). While you are there, take a Old Mill Tour on Saturday or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday to get a peek inside the fully restored mill. On Saturday, your kids can take a History Detective Tour.
 
Durham's tobacco heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents on a Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour Saturday morning.
 
Meet Crowder District County Park staff on the boardwalk Sunday to study the Waterfowl and other winged wildlife of the park. You will even learn to identify a few common birds and make a duck call. Come back Tuesday to learn about the more than 180 known species of Woodpeckers.
 
Art, Culture & Music
 
The Science Cafe Thursday evening at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences will feature Science Trivia. Author Lee Alan Dugatkin will also present his latest book, Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose. Remember the museum stays open late every Thursday night and you can see the Birds of Paradise at a discounted price after 5pm.

 

Kick off your weekend with several events at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Art in the Evening returns with live music by David Dryer and the Crooked Smile Band. The featured fall film will be the 1947 flick Out of the Past and you are invited to an in-depth exploration of Constructing Images.
Bring the kids back to the Art Museum Saturday for a Family Fun Saturday event where you explore transportation in art. Early Saturday, you are invited to an American Cars and Hot Rods Meetup along Blue Ridge Road. Enjoy cars, music, food trucks with breakfast & snacks for sale, a kids play zone, and health screenings by UNC-REX.
 
The Holly Springs Cultural Center will feature Ice Age, The Meltdown as their Free Family Movie on Saturday morning.
 
Author Trish Foxwell will talk about researching her book, A Visitor's Guide to the Literary South, as she shares some of the favorite spots she found on Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of History. Sunday's Music of the Carolinas concert will feature Arnold Richardson playing Native American Flutes.
 
Visit with Buddy the Elf from Raleigh Memorial Auditorium's Elf, The Musical when he makes a special appearance at Marbles Saturday.
 
What to do at the Fairgrounds
 
Even though the State Fair is packed up for another year, there is plenty going on at the Fairgrounds. This weekend brings the return of the Capital Area Handbell Festival. Come enjoy the final concert Saturday afternoon.

 

The Annual Raleigh Antiques Extravaganza features over 125 exhibitors, from Florida to New England, featuring quality antiques and old collectibles all weekend.
 
The whole family will enjoy the Annual Train & Railroadiana Show & Sale this weekend.
