Happy Labor Day Weekend! It looks like the weather is going to be fabulous so enjoy your long weekend!

Thursday Kicks Off the Holiday Weekend

This Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will focus on Saving Our Forests. Along with the lecture, extended hours and discount tickets to Dinosaurs in Motion, you are also invited to a free Screening of the film A Sense of Wonder with Writer/Actress Kaiulani Lee. In addition, Thursday night is a Homeschool Evening. Click through for the assortment of classes available.

Oak City 7 is back in Downtown Raleigh with the concert that was rained out back in June, Thursday night will bring tunes from the Jon Stickley Trio, Doug McCormick, The Human Eyes, The Trophy Fire and Rosco Bandana.
 

This Thursday marks the last Locally Grown Concert in Chapel Hill with three of Chapel Hill's most popular and innovative bands; Virgins Family Band, Morning Brigade, and Clockwork Kids.

 
The fun continues Friday at the NC Museum of Art. Peter Lamb and the Wolves will be playing the tunes for Art in the Evening, the Sound Bite will explore the timeless subject of Mother and Child. Friday night's Outdoor Movie will be the 2012 historical epilogue Lincoln with Daniel Day-Lewis. Come back Saturday night to see James Bond in SkyFall.
 
Pack a picnic and load up the family to go watch family favorite How to Train Your Dragon at Regency Park's Movie by Moonlight on Friday night.
Lineage is a show for artists to explore the source and metamorphosis of their creative journey and/or discipline. The show at the Halle Cultural Arts Center will run until October, but you are invited to the Opening Reception Saturday night.
 
Head on over to Downtown Historic Hillsborough for Last Fridays. This month's celebration will feature a concert by Risse.
Also as part of Last Fridays in Hillsborough, the Burwell School Historic Site will host Red Rover for a concert on the lawn.

Festivals & Fun
 

City Plaza in Downtown Raleigh will be hosting the annual African American Cultural Festival both Saturday and Sunday. The Festival will feature an African American arts and crafts market, non-stop live entertainment, specialty items and food vendors. There will even be a family-friendly Village featuring performances and educational, interactive programming for school-aged children.

Monsters VS Aliens is the featured family flick this Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 
Get outside and enjoy Raleigh's warm summer evenings at the Sunday in the Park Concert Series at Pullen Park. This weekend's concert will feature the Japanese drum group, Triangle Taiko.
 
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering Saturday at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. Come on out to the restored mill on Monday to learn all about Paddle Power!
The Halle Cultural Arts Center will be showing The Lion King as this week's Tuesday Morning Movie. Wednesday night's Academy Award Adult Film Series presents Zero Dark Thirty.
 
YogaFest Raleigh will showcase accessible yoga practices and the excellent yoga teachers in the area. The inaugural event provides a series of 10 free yoga classes at the City Plaza Astroturf on Tuesday evenings until October.

Join the Occoneechee Ranger for a Sunset Hike to see the view from the Overlook Trail Friday evening.

 

Its a Citizen Science Saturday at Prairie Ridge Ecostation. These Saturday morning adventures will introduce you to a citizen science project and enlist your help collecting and entering data as you enjoy a walk around the grounds with one of their naturalists.
 
Get your blood pumping with a fast 4 mile Power Hike with the Eno River State Park naturalist Saturday morning.
 
Learn about some of the Wildlife that call Raven Rock State Park home, make plaster tracks of your favorite park animal and then take a short hike to look for some wildlife Saturday morning.
 
Eno River State Park is all about fishing this weekend. Kids are invited to try Beginning Fishing Saturday morning and grown ups can learn the techniques of Fly Fishing Saturday afternoon.
 
The US Army Corps of Engineers Rangers will be the Special Guests on Monday presenting Water Safety at Falls Lake State Recreation.
 
Lots to do at the Fairgrounds

There is quite an eclectic mix again this weekend at the State Fairgrounds. Some of the events do have a small admission charge so make sure to click through for all the details.

The Hunt Horse Complex will be hosting the Labor of Love Horse Show on Saturday and Sunday. There will be all levels of dressage competition. On Monday, check out the Sport Horse Breeding Show. There will also be an Equestrian Exchange Consignment Sale.

AKC registered dogs will compete each day for points leading to championships, as well as dog obedience trials for degrees and obedience championship points at the Kennel Club Dog Show.
 
Treasures of the Earth Gem, Mineral & Jewelry will bring together collections gold and sterling silver jewelry, loose gems, pearls, beads and findings, minerals, crystals, fossils all under one roof.
