Here comes another amazing Spring weekend just in time for Mother's Day. There are so many fun festivals and special Mother's Day events to choose from this weekend.

This Thursday's Science Cafe at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences delves into the Monte Carlo Method. Come see how it can solve almost any problem in science or engineering - and can be fun, too!

 
Mother's Day Events & Spring Concerts

Moms Rock this weekend at Marbles Kids Museum! You'll create cool Mother's Day presents and have fun making your Mom feel like a star on her special day.

Celebrate Mother's Day at the North Carolina Zoo on Saturday with Birds and Blooms. The fun educational event in the Aviary will focus on the mission of International Migratory Bird Day. As a special treat on Saturday afternoon, the Duke University String School will offer a free concert.
 
Learn all about Mama Birds on a special Mother's Day program at Lake Crabtree County Park on Sunday.
 
Want to give mom the day off from cooking? Downtown Raleigh's City Plaza will host a Food Truck Rodeo Sunday afternoon featuring over 40 food trucks.
 
Treat mom out to a fabulous concert this weekend. On Thursday night, Jo Gore & The Alternative will be heating things up with soul music over at the CCB Plaza and Amanda Daughtry will be singing her mix of classic country music, classic rock, and mainstream pop for a Music off Main Concert in Garner.
 
The Cary Town Band invites you to celebrate their 25th Anniversary with them Friday night at the Sertoma Amphitheater. This concert is going to recreate their first outdoor concert - complete with the same music (and a few more selections played in that era) with some of the same band members who played them 25 years ago.
 
Come back to the Sertoma Amphitheater in Bond Park Saturday evening to enjoy a concert by the Jeff Little Trio, a bluegrass, blues, honky-tonk, jazz, rock-in-roll trio.
 
Myrna Bascunan and Claudia Lopez Bascunan will be singing Chilean folk songs, playing drums, and telling stories for a Music of the Carolinas concert at the North Carolina Museum of History Sunday afternoon.
 
Sunday night would be a great night to take mom out to a concert in the park. Carroll Joyner Park will host the Rockabilly, Reggae, Soul, & Funk sounds of MikeMickXer this week.
 
Cary's Booth Amphitheatre will host the Al Strong Quartet for this Wednesday's Hob Nob Jazz Concert.
 
Fun at Local Festivals & Museums
 

Its time for Turtlefest! The annual festival at Bass Lake Park will feature a variety of live turtles, interactive exhibits, games, crafts and a children's art contest.

Join living historians portraying the American soldier who served in the Confederate army during the American Civil War during this Saturday's Confederate Memorial Day Observance at Bennett Place Historic Site.
 
The Mad Hatter's Art & Garden Market on the grounds of the Wake Forest Historical Museum will bring together the Art & Garden Market with a vintage car show on Saturday.
 
The North Carolina Museum of History invites you to make a hoop-and-ball toy, then visit the Sports Hall of Fame exhibit during Saturday's Make it, Take it.
 
Head on over to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds for this weekend's Wake County Library Book Sale. The annual event starts Thursday and runs through Sunday with the half price day on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be plenty of bestsellers up for grabs, as well as cookbooks, textbooks and books on history and religion.
 
 
Friday night, you can learn about the Summer Sky at Historic Yates Mill County Park. Come back Saturday to take a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour or Sunday to take a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour.
 
Sunday kicks off Bear Awareness Week at the Museum of Life and Science. Join them all week to learn about bears and the issues they face.
 
Wednesday is Bike Day at the Downtown Farmers Market. Everyone is encouraged to ride their bike to the market and celebrate bike to work week. There will be a variety of bike-related activities and information about biking in Raleigh.
 
The Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Bolt.
 
Fun Starts Friday
 
Movies by Moonlight are back to Booth Amphitheater at Regency Park this Friday. Pack a picnic and come enjoy the 2012 film, What to Expect When You Are Expecting starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez.

 

Turtlefest is this Saturday at Bass Lake Park. The festivities start Friday afternoon with the kick off of the Turtlefest Art Contest.
 
Also at Bass Lake Park Friday night, Family Bingo promises to be a fun night of friendly competition for the whole family.
 
Bring a flashlight, and your night vision for a hike around Lake Crabtree County Park with park staff at dusk to learn what those bumps in the night really are and discover the secret art of Spider-Sniffing.
 
Friday night is Kid's Nature Night at Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Drop off the kids and enjoy a date night as they learn about nature, go on a short hike, play games and do a craft. They will even watch a movie while enjoying popcorn!
 
Art in the Evening at the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature the sounds of David Dyer and the Crooked Smile Band. You can also join Timeless Beauty an exploration of images of women and changing fads in women's fashion. The featured flick will be the 1988 Italian classic, Cinema Paradiso.
 
Fuquay will be buzzing Friday night with Art After Dark which includes an artists reception for the En Plein Air Paintings, live music, artist and crafters market, kids activities, museum tours, a drum circle and local gallery and restaurant specials.
 
Downtown Wake Forest will come alive with food, merchants and music during Friday night's Art After Hours.
 
Getting Out to the Parks
 
Great Outdoor Provision Company will be hosting a Boat Demo Thursday evening at Lake Crabtree County Park. You early risers are invited to go Birding with Vernon Saturday morning. While you're there, join them for a Lake Trail Hike that will explore the entire circumference of the lake.

 

The C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) program for kids is back at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Join them Saturday mornings for basic fishing instruction. Come back after dark for an Astronomy Viewing Session with an educator from Morehead Planetarium.
 
Saturday brings another Citizen Science Saturday at Prairie Ridge. These weekly adventures will introduce you to a citizen science project and enlist your help collecting and entering data as you enjoy a walk around the grounds with one of their naturalists. Sunday introduces visitors to Science on Your Smartphone. Come back Tuesday for a Walk Through the Seasons.
 
Join park staff Saturday to go Birding around Durant Nature Park.
 
Bring your flashlight to Lake Johnson Park Saturday for a Night Flight. Come learn the common bat species found in Raleigh and discover unique adaptations tbats use to fly, hunt, and survive.
 
Saturday afternoon, come to Eno River State Park to explore the open house at the Historic Piper Cox House. Come join a ranger Sunday afternoon to go on a Flower Adventure where you will go on a safari for flowers. They will also have a Wayside Display set up Sunday focused on Coyotes and Foxes.
 
Join an Umstead State Park Ranger on Big Lake for a 90 minute Twilight Canoe Tour on Monday evening.
 
Kids are invited to Get Crafty on Tuesday at Crowder Park and make a gorgeous garden home for toads.
