Its Going to be a Fabulous Spring Weekend! There's the NC Science Festival with activities throughout the Triangle's parks and museums, history events, garden shows, concerts, movies and lots of great hikes.

Thursday night's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences brings Science Trivia.
 
"Beneath the Planet of the Apes" will be the First Friday Sci-fi Flick at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences along with a Teen Science Cafe about plagues, live music, discounted tickets to the "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" and a reception at the Nature Art Gallery for "The Places In Between."
 
Also in Downtown Raleigh Friday night, City Market will host a 80's Street Party, the local restaurants and galleries will come alive for the monthly Gallery Walk and the Raleigh City Museum invites you to learn about Raleigh's Local Historic Sites.
 
Art in the Evening at the North Carolina Museum of Art Friday night will boast the music of David Dyer along with Sound Bites focusing on Extreme Devotion.
 
Family Fun Night comes to Bass Lake Park Friday evening with arts & crafts, live animals and a show by Happy Dan The Magic Man.

The 2013 NC Science Festival
 
Friday night kicks off this years NC Science Festival with a Statewide Star Party. Here in the Triangle there will be Star Parties at Eno River state Park, Prairie Ridge Ecostation, Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve Park, Jordan Lake, Little River Regional Park, Marbles Kids Museum, Morehead Planetarium and the Museum of Life and Science.

 

The NC Science Festival also brings back the Raleigh Rockin Walkin Tour. Join them Friday night in Downtown Raleigh to explore the varied rocks and minerals that make up the buildings of downtown Raleigh.
 
Although the Festival starts Friday, there will be lots of free events all week long. Marbles Kids Museum will host a Family Science Fair and Nano Days on Saturday and Bubble-ology on Sunday. Next weekend brings a Butterfly Bash and Science Solvers on Saturday and a Green Energy Workshop and Sweet Science on Sunday. Click through for the schedule of special events.
 
Saturday is Frog Fest at Crowder District Park! Celebrate Frogs and Clean Water with games, crafts, educational activities and food.
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art joins in on the Science Festival on Saturday with two sessions of Experiments with Art & Science. Visit a work of art that explores science themes, and use science to create your own works of art.
 
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences will showcase Triangle Science on Saturday with the BEST Fest (Biotechnology, Engineering, Science and Technology). There will be crafts, games and hands-on activities for the whole family. While you are there, be sure to check out the Solar Cell Challenge.

More Festivals
 
Spring is blooming at the JC Raulston Arboretum. This weekend brings Raulston Blooms, a garden festival for the whole family, on Saturday and the Annual Birdhouse Competition on both Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Lebanese Festival will be celebrating Lebanese Cuisine and Culture with Belly Dancing, Folk Dancing, live bands, kids activities, cultural booths, authentic Lebanese cooking, hookas, future telling and more in Raleigh's City Plaza on Saturday.
 
Falls Lake State Recreation Area will be hosting BW Wells Heritage Day on Saturday with history, wildflower, ecology and geology hikes; a hog farming tour, kite building, campfire stories and children's games and activities.
 
The Cherry blossoms in Washington DC may be several hours away, but we can enjoy them right here is the Triangle at this Sunday's Cherry Blossom Festival at the Sara P. Duke Gardens.
 
If you are looking for a fun Day trip next weekend, the North Carolina Azalea Festival in Wilmington starts on Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
 
History, Music & Movies

Spring Break Blast at Marbles Kids Museum continues through Sunday. Click through for the whole schedule of Spring fun that morphs into the NC Science Festival.

Make a pinwheel to spin in the spring breezes, and find out about historic handmade toys during Saturday's Make It, Take It at the North Carolina Museum of History. The Making of a Legend: Gone with the Wind will be shown Sunday afternoon along with a short talk and exhibit tour at the History Museum.
 
Saturday is Civil War Park Day at Bennett Place State Historic Site. Come out and support the park by helping with projects like preparing the Spring garden and landscaping, preparations for the 147th Anniversary Surrender commemoration.
 
The Holly Springs Community Band will offer a free concert Saturday evening at the Holly Springs Cultural Center celebrating the "Rites of Spring".
 
Saturday is Art Day at the NC Museum of Art. You are invited to bring up to three works of art to be examined by museum staff members so you can learn more about your art pieces and how to care for them. While you are there, take a Meet Your Museum Tour to learn about everything the Art Museum has to offer. Come back Sunday for an Artist's Talk with Alec Soth.
 
Historic Yates Mill County Park is offering Saturdays at the Old Mill which include a half-hour tour to view the main power drive and milling machinery while exploring the mill's history and aspects of its preservation.
 
Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius will be the featured Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 
The NC State Fairgrounds is hosting both a Precious Gem & Mineral Show and All-Arabian Horse Show this weekend.
 
More Fun at the Parks
 
Do you know what to do with a fish when you catch one? Learn how to fish and then how to prepare the fish to eat at Saturday's Catch n Cook Workshop at Bass Lake Park. On Sunday afternoon, you can learn about North Carolina Animals that you could encounter on hikes in the area's forests.

 

Head on over to Lake Crabtree County Park Saturday morning to do some Birding with Vernon and then stay to volunteer during the Spring Big Sweep. In honor of NC Invasive Species Awareness Week, they will host both Catastrophic Critters 2: The Return of the Sequel and Aliens In Your Garden 2: Green Vengeance on Sunday.
 
Eno River State Park will also be Birdwatching Saturday morning along with exploring Salamanders of the Eno and Beginning Fishing.
 
Join them at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning on Saturday mornings to learn how you can become a Citizen Scientist. Take a Walk Through the Seasons on Tuesday morning.
 
Wilkerson Nature Preserve will be holding a Spring Scavenger Hike on Saturday morning to look for wildflowers and other signs of spring.
 
This Sunday's Spring Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Pea Creek & Dunnagan Trail.
