Spring is here and so is our quirky weather. There are a bunch of great indoor and outdoor activities scheduled this weekend so you can find something fun to do no matter what the weather brings.
Easter is right around the corner and most of the municipal Easter Egg Hunts are next weekend. For details about those, go to the Events Search at ParkGeek.com. This Saturday, there will be Egg Hunts in Wake Forest and Apex.
 
The Fun Starts Friday
 

Join an Eno River State Park Ranger at sunset to learn about Bats of the Eno and take a night hike.

 

Come to Wilkerson Nature Preserve on Friday for Nature Play Day. Join them for a day of imaginative play in a natural setting.
 
Art in the Evening is back at the North Carolina Museum of Art with the 1960 film Butterfield 8. The flick stars Elizabeth Taylor, Lawrence Harvey, and Eddie Fisher.
 
Bring the whole family back to the Museum of Art Saturday to learn how to Transform Everyday Materials during a Family Fun Saturday. There will also be a Public Workshop on Saturday and a Lecture on John Singer Sargent's Israel and the Law on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Nature Center of Greensboro will present "Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon" Laser Show Friday night in their 40 foot dome OmniSphere Theater.
The Future & the Past Come Alive
 
This is Round Two in March Science Madness at the Museum of Life and Sciences. This week features Nano Days. Nano Days is free with museum admission and features hands-on programs and demonstrations about nanoscale science, engineering and technology.

 

Between Heaven & Hell: Raleigh at the End of the Civil War will be the topic of a lecture by Historian Ernest Dollar at the North Carolina State Capitol Saturday afternoon.
 
Historic Yates Mill County Park will be giving a Tip Top to Bottom Mill Tour on Saturday of all four floors of the restored mill.
 
Soldiers of the Old North State will set up an encampment at Bennett Place State Historic Site throughout the weekend displaying the uniforms and equipment of Tarheel soldiers. Additional activities include drill demonstrations and musket firings.
 
Marbles Kids Museum will sponsor a Green Energy Workshop with a NCSU Solar House energy expert. The Windy Play Day will be a hands on, minds-on workshop.
 
The Greater Greensboro Society of Medicine Alliance will be hosting Doctor's Day at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro. This kid-friendly event will even include teddy bear check-ups.
 
The Holly Springs Police Department is sponsoring a Public Safety Event including pet vaccinations, document shredding, safety seat checks and a medicine drop.
 
The Wake Forest Police are also sponsoring a Medicine Drop at the Wake Forest Town Hall.
 
Have you visited the new History of North Carolina Exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of History? It is a spectacular trip through 14,000 years of history. This Sunday, curator RaeLana Poteat will offer a Curator's Choice Tour about how staff worked to tell the state"s story through artifacts, multimedia presentations, and hands-on interactives.
 
The fun family flick Puss & Boots will be playing on the big screen at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday morning.
 
The North Carolina Museum of History invites you to join them Tuesday evening for a Women's History Month Celebration.

Family Fun at the Parks
 
Head on over to the American Tobacco Trail Sunday to Kick Off to a Healthy Lifestyle. The free family event focusing on healthy lifestyles has been organized by NCSU's Parks, Recreation and Tourism students

 

Saturday on the American Tobacco Trail, you can come explore what lives Among the Leaf Litter.
 
There are quite a few guided hikes on Saturday. Come, learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders and explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist on a Geology Hike.
 
Take a Canoe Hike out at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area and experience the park from a different perspective. Come back after dark for an Astronomy Viewing Session.
 
They will be doing some Birdwatching early Saturday morning and Hiking out to the Breeze Family Homestead in the afternoon over at Eno River State Park. Or you can search for Animal Tracks nearby at West Point on the Eno. On Sunday, they will be looking for Early Spring Wildflowers at Eno River State Park.
 
Birds and Butterflies will be the theme of guided hikes at Sandy Creek Park, too.
 
This week is the prime week for the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC. Enjoy our local blooms at the Cherry Blossom Festival on Sunday at the Sara P. Duke Garden.
 
The weekly winter hikes at West Point on the Eno Park have transitioned to Sunday Spring Hikes. This week's hike out to Willie Duke's Bluff is their longest and most challenging wildflower walk.
 
The Wilkerson Nature Preserve invites you to a Spring Scavenger Hike on Sunday afternoon to look for wildflowers and other signs of spring.
 
On Wednesday afternoon, join a Park Ranger to learn about some of the Animals that inhabit William B. Umstead State Park.
 
Lots to do at the Fairgrounds
 
Discover Indian cultural arts through dance, music, cultural cuisine, and traditional crafts in a Bazaar-style atmosphere at IndiaFest.

 

Have your kids grown over the winter? Are you looking for some great bargains? The Children's Spring Clothing and Baby Equipment Sale runs this Saturday and will have children's & Maternity clothing, toys for all ages, books, games, videos, bikes, bedding, shoes, baby equipment and much more.
 
The area Kennel Clubs will be at the fairgrounds competing in the Kennel Club Dog Show.
 
American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Roadsters and Hackneys will be the breeds featured in the Raleigh Spring Premier Benefit Horse Show.
 
Tuesday night at the Hunt Horse Complex will feature a Livestock Judging Contest.
